Thermo switch problems ?
#1

Hi

I have a club sport which only comes with one cooling fan as standard, however it keeps cutting in even when the engine has been turned off for ages, the only way to stop it is remove the relay or disconnect the battery.

I have checked the connector to the thermo switch and it has three terminals on it, if i bridge two the fan runs and you can hear the relay clicking in and out .

When i measure the switch in the radiator two of the connectors have a circuit which coninside with the two connectors i bridged on the wiring amking the fans work.

Am i right in thinking that there should be no circuit in the switch when the engine is cold?

Also i am puzzeled that the third wire is live which goes to the thermoswitch, any idea what this does?

Also is the club sport thermoswitch the same as the normal 968.

Any eay way to remove the item, looks like it screws into plastic on the rad?

Thanks again

This is a common problem and the part just unscrews like you think. I believe this part is shared with VW and can be found cheap from auto parts places. The dealer will have a pricier version.

You can get the sensor in different heat ranges so keep an eye on the version you get. You will have to remove the top rad hose to get to things so there is going to be some fluid loss. Hope this helps...

Not sure which VW model, but I seem to remember the parts place having the cross reference and the $12 part. That was on my 944S, but the 968 is the same. Call a parts place and get a number and see if you can get the thing at your dealership, but it is cheap.

Thanks

Does the 968 cs have the same temp thermo switch to the normal 968, the normal 968 runs two fans i believe, the 968 only has one so the temp when switching on may be different???

Thanks again

not sure - but there are only 3 wires coming from it - one for high speed - one for low - the other is common to both - so, i tend to suspect they would use the same switch on the presumption that the CS has a dual speed single fan - if it is a single speed fan though, then no

Thanks Flash

Its a single speed fan, so i think your right, they will use the same switch as the normal 968,

Off to buy one now, cheers

you misread that

if it is a single speed fan, it is NOT the same switch

if it is a single DUAL speed fan, it is probably the same switch
