TecHart exhaust system - input?
#1

I am considering buying a second hand Porsche 968 Techart cat back system I know is for sale locally. Anyone have any input on the sound or quality or performance impact of this system? Looking to use the car for some more commuting as well as track days, and my current system is extreme volume wise!

Tks

Mark,

I do have this system(I use my car as a daily driver), I have no problems with the system. There are two versions; one still has a small muffler (where the original resonator sits) and a rear silincer. The other option is just two pipes after the cat al the way to the rear silencer (my car has this system). The good thing is that you can fit this system to the original system any way you like, just the rear silencer & the standard resonator or no resonator and the standard rear silencer etc. etc. Have a look on their website for some pictures.

this one has been around for a while - no offense to those who have bought this, and while i am sure it doesn't suck, and likely has less loss than some others out there, it isn't the best performer

there is no data i have yet seen to support the claims made by the manufacturer, and contrary to what some will say, the TuV certification does not mean that the claims are valid - it only means that it meets the manufacturing specifications of the tests to which it was submitted (material, welds, etc) and that it meets the required noise levels - there is thusfar no indication that any performance tests were done - independent tests were less than stellar

as for the sound, i have heard it described as "high pitched" - this would make sense since smaller pipes make higher pitched sounds than larger ones

it is also one of the heaviest aftermarket units out there

unless they are nearly giving it away, you can do a lot better

Hi Mark,

We've been looking at the same exhaust! I'm really happy with the sound of my system - actually seems to have got a little throatier (perhaps thats a bad sign!) since I did the airbox mod. But wouldn't mind a bit more power. What chip mod have you got?

I'm a bit skeptical about the exhaust as he's had it a few years, never fitted at and obviously bought it off trademe.

Not many 968's around Auckland - probably see you around!

And living in North Carolina you are qualified to comment, eh?

Tks for all the input. Re auckland - you are correct, there are not to many around. Maybe 6 968 CS's with the M030 pack. Includes a few imports.....still more than in North Carolina though eh? ;-)

To the Aucklander with the red 968, I am not sure about that exhaust....just issue is my car has more of a full race system and too loud to commute with much. If you buy that system, would you sell the stock system.....may be interested? Does yours have a cat?

if i had to guess, based purely on what i've seen over the last 5 years, there are probably at least about 50 968s in north carolina
