Switching to 951 Flywheel???
#1

My friend is building his 951 and bought a very light (5lb) flywheel, and I can get his old one for free. If I had it machined down to say 8-10lbs, whats involved in swapping over to a 951 flywheel? Just the flywheel/clutch, or are there other parts? I see a lot of the turbo/supercharged guys going with 951 setups?

Thanks,

Wes

Wouldn't the 951 flywhell mess up your spped and reference sensor readings for the DME? This is a potentially useful read: FRWilk's DME site.

I am not sure, thus why I was asking? I wouldn't assume it would bolt right up, but if it works without MUCH work, it will definantly be worth doing when my clutch goes out...instead of $400 for a 968 ltw flywheel and another $600 for the clutch! A 951 clutch stock would hold as much power as I ever intend in the next couple of years!

Besides the sensor issue, you need the 951 bellhousing and thus toque tube too. The 968 flywheel is about 1.5" thicker than the 951 flywheel. The guide tube and fork would be in the wrong locations. The 951 fw will bolt to the crank though.

Best bet is to get a Spec or Fidanza fw if you are looking for lighter weight.
