Sunroof Issue
#1

I few months back I started having sunroof issues that have caused me heartburn of late.

The sunroof would work intermittently and as of a couple of weeks ago it has stopped working altogether. I would push the tilt button and nothing would happen then drive a bit further and hit the button again and it would work. I believe I have checked all the obvious (fuse, relay, installed a new switch). There is currently no noise from anything when the tilt button is pushed.

5 or so years ago I had the entire sunroof system replaced...new motor, cables, gears, etc. The cost was high for something I rarely use but I wanted everything to function correctly.

Am I overlooking anything? Any ideas would be great as I am not looking forward to a trip to the repair shop to have this problem tracked down.

i think your car is already on "tilt", and hence any pushing of the button is redundant

seriously, likely a bad connection

Check for a stuck micro switch.

Hey Ron - long time - hope all is going well... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

If the cable drive mechanism is not properly indexed [moved beyond a micro-switch], it'll appear as if it's not getting power. If I recall there are ~4 switches. Did you happen to hear a gear grind or is the roof panel higher on one side? If so, the lift mechanism may need to be re-indexed.

Hey Pete...how's that bad ass car doin!

The last time the roof worked everything was as it should be...ie. the button was pushed and the tilt feature worked as it should with no grinding, slipping, or lopsided raise. I do not believe the issue is indexing but more in line with some type of electrical problem (no power?....which is the reason for replacing the switch....couldn't be that easy!). Stuck micro switches seem to be a recurring theme.

Anyone know how I test the micro swithes (yes I believe there are 4....I checked)?

....oh and flash....if my car is stuck on button pushed "tilt" what does that make your car? Whirled?

Mine stopped working over the winter and I thought for sure I would have to at a minimum replace the gears. During a recent oil change I had my Porsche mechanic look at it. He lubricated the mechanisma and it worked fine! He said that in his experience, 944 series sunroof seals degrade and allow water to seep in. One good winter freeze can then jam the gears tight. A little lubrication and presto!

Needless to say I was a happy camper. Yet another reason to find a good wrench and stick with them.

I was thinking another possibility is "crushed ice"...or perhaps "pulverized"...or "grind"..."pulverize"...."whip"?

RPM- what were the symptoms you experienced? Curious what your roof did when it was siezed before it was lubbed up...did you hear the motor working in the rear trying to raise the roof?
