Sunroof Gears
#1

First cool morning over here and I heard that awful sound of my sunroof gears being stripped. This is now the third on on the same side. My mechanic assures me that he had had the adjustment correct and it seems to last 6 months or so. I use my sunroof quite a lot.

I also replaced my sunroof seal - which changed the amount of water needing to access one of the sunroof (blocked) drains - but that is another story!!

Any ideas on potential causes of this imbalance?

Thanks,

Peter

I have been using the same gears since purchase. I use my roof on just about every trip.

Could be a lack of lube on the gears. Perhaps you can adjust and inspect it your self? Dial the torque way back and then add grease to the gears before installing. Put just a few screws back in and test.

Making sense of that mechanism isn't easy but Clarks garage has a good write up.
