i was under the car, measuring and calculating for my new stacked spring setup (designed to soften the street ride yet maintain the performance of the stiffer springs). when i looked up at the upper perch of one of my rear shocks, i saw something that almost made me ill. i narrowly escaped a tragic suspension failure.
at the dyno, we had to life the car up to attach it to the machine. in doing so, the springs fell loose. they usually popped back into place when we set it back down. apparently not all the time though.
here is what happens when you let your springs drop loose because you didn't add a little helper spring to hold them in place:
