Weltmeister Springs
#1

My vehicle has Weltmeister Springs on the front, dark blue in color, installed by PO. I am unable to see a part# to get more details on them. I have searched online, and have only found Paragon to carry them for the 944S2, and 968. They do have 944 Weltmeister that cleary say they are 200, or 250's, assuming lbs. and they state that it lowers car 1" and nothing else. I am more interested in finding out how different from stock they are. It is obviously lower, but i feel that they are not much stronger than stock, after an autocross this weekend, where bodyroll during cornering and heavy braking was significant. I wil send pictures. I know swaybars are essential, but i need to know what i have first before i start making changes.

Anyone have Weltmeister? Are they progressive? thoughts?

Thanks

you could calculate it if you had the number of coils, coil diameter, free length, and wire diameter

as a reference, stock is 160#

I will take a wheel off and clean and inspect thoroughly, hopefully with a

Light I can find a number

I see Automotion.com has the springs for 968 in 180, 200, and 250lbs. They seem really inexpensive.

I found an invoice from PO, and verified with Paragon.

They are Hypercoil lowering springs, Paragon claims 200lbs. So not a big increase from stock.

No worries, I will work on shocks/struts, and later sway bars.

when you said dark blue, i thought they might be hypercoils. i thought weltmeister springs were white, but i figured i could be wrong there.

Yeah, my bad.

I wil see how they work out, the hyper coils. Paragon is very helpful, many of the guys own 968's. I think I have tired components, so replacements will yield good results.

no worries

the 200# hypercoils are fine for normal street use, and almost as stiff as you can go with the stock torsion bars without upsetting the balance

It all depends on your goals. I have 250 lb springs in the front, and while they feel great on the street, they're way too mushy on the track

those are too stiff for the stock torsions, but you won't notice it until you try to toss the weight around. you can't fight the physics though. numbers are numbers. you really need a 90# helper on the rear. that's what we did to ds968's car and it worked wonders.

we also avoided the dreaded rear gas shock headache too, which all too often masks the soft rear relative to the front. a lot of people crank up the gas rear shocks (like koni yellow sports), thinking that stiffens up the rear, but all it does is upset the weight transfer when you push it. it "feels" sporty on the street though. still, hydraulic shocks work better

a balanced car means a balanced suspension, and visa versa. anything else is a compromise that costs corner speed.
