Steering wheel play issue
#1

Hi Guys, need some advice.

When Im holding the steering wheel at the 10 and 4 o'clock position, there is some free play when i give it a push at the 4 o'clock position as though the steering wheel has not been mounted on a flat surface..

I've checked that the steering wheel nut is properly secured. Swapped it out with a spare wheel that I have and still experiencing the same symptom..

What could this be? Steering column bushing? If so, can this be replaced easily?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Ed.

Found the problem. The needle sleeve at the bottom end of the steering column is worn and needs to be replaced.

I also plan on replacing the rubber mount for the steering column (part#22 in the attached diagram), but I'm struggling to find the correct part number for it. There are two part numbers for this that I see.

1) 411417613 (NLA)

2) 99970700840

Does anyone know which is the correct one?

Mine's a 1992 968 cab without airbag.

Thanks,

Ed.

The 411 number is the rubber bushing, the other one is an o-ring for the airbag. NLA it seems then :-(

Strange that both part numbers point to the same #22 on the diagram..

Maybe both are the same part but one comes with an additional o-ring? Could be only the o-ring is still available. Maybe a call to the dealership will clear that up.
