Spacers
#1

Ok, so I'm looking to space out the Boxster S2 wheels I just bought out a bit so I don't have any hub clearance issues in the front, and just to get them a touch farther out for stance and looks, but not so far out that I will need to replace the studs. It looks like a 5mm or 6mm spacer is the right way to go.

Are all spacers created equally? Is there a certain type anyone would suggest? What about the best source to buy them?

Cheers

just make sure they are hubcentric - that will maintain balance

7mm is the max before you need to install longer studs.

Is anyone else running Boxster rims? I test fitted the front wheels 2 days ago before I had the tires mounted on the wheels. It seemed like there was a dust cap on the hub that has a larger Outside diameter than the hub, and this cap conflicted with the inner diameter of the wheel. I've ordered some spacers, 1/4" which is about as big as I can go without longer studs, but I'm not sure if this will be enough or if it is possible to modify the cap, or if anyone else has any insight?

cheers

Phil, I had a set of twists and if iirc, you need at least a 3mm spacer to install the center cap.

With Spacers as small as 3mm of 6mm, am I correct in thinking they are not hub centric?

Yes, you are correct - not all of them are hubcentric at that size. I used some 4mm spacers last year to dial out some understeer at the track... they were not hubcentric. Also, at 4mm I BARELY had enough length on the wheel studs for the lug nuts. The wheel studs were not poking out the end of the wheel nut like they should. Someone else has mentioned that 7mm is the max, but there's no way that would work for my wheels, so I suppose it could depend on wheel offset.

Also, H&R has some nice spacers under the name of TRAK+. These are kits that include longer wheel studs where warranted. Browsing those will at least give you an idea of what's available.

Thanks, I'll take a look, is it a big job to change the wheel studs?
