18" Carrera S vs. 17" Boxster S II
#1

Which one do you like? I'm asking about looks, though you're more comment on the actual wheel size/ weight as well. The S II is lighter, has less rotational inertia, accepts cheaper tires, will give a softer ride...though the foot print is smaller (8 front 10 rear vs front 7 rear 8.5) so I'll sacrifice a bit of handling considering the footprint and the larger sidewall.

For my taste, the first set you show is much too "busy" a design - too many unnecessary openings - and what is, to me, a very "clunky" look. The second set is much more tasteful and befitting the simple elegance of the 968.

I like the lower pic set. Very clean and neat looking. The top set looks more track ready.

"track ready" haha, I like that approach, so you're saying I should get both!

i also like the lower set much better - nice looking wheel

the rotational mass issue is one i wrestle with constantly

if you can get me the numbers, i can work the math for you

Well, on my sons' 968. I use a set of 16" Cup 1's for autoxing and a set of Boxter 17" Sport Classics for street driving. The Cup 1's look even better with no center caps and Hoosiers mounted.

The second set definately. As others have said its cleaner and goes with the demeanor of the 968.

Well, that seems like a pretty definitive set of responses. Now I just need to find some. I know wheel enhancement has them, but they are pricey. I don't see a lot of them coming up on ebay or craigslist, just have to keep my eyes peeled I guess...

[ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND]Have you seen the new Boxster III

Front 17x7 et 55 19 lbs 10oz
Rear 17x8.5 et 40 21 lbs 15oz

Whats the thoughts on these - I like them - not sure about the rear offset and giving up th 1/2 inch width (but I think I could live with it).

I like them, they are maybe a bit more distracting than the S II because they are so sharp, but still pretty cool. What do you mean by giving up 1/2 inch diameter? et 40 @ 8.5 rear should fit since people are running et 58 @ 10 inch width, but I'm sure someone here can pipe in.

I have the 16s which are 7 wide and 8 wide I think. It looks like you do too on your avatar, but then again that is a mighty small picture.

Phil,

Yes I have the standard cup 16's - I would like to move up to 17's but the options are limited - with these (really need to see them in person) I would have to decide if I wanted to go with 215/45 & 245/40 that would fit the 7 & 8.5 widths and run just shy (about 1/2") of the stock 25' diameter or stick with 225/45 & 255/40 which fit within the spec's for the 7 & 8.5's but ideal is th 7.5 & 9" - lose alittle sidewall stability? and about a 1/2" in contact width; wieghts are the same....mmm what to do....

For wheels with specs:

17"
7" ET55
8.5" ET 48

what size spacers would be needed? I know this is a bit objective other than the possible issues with clearance on the hub.

Thanks

I was just about to ask a question, but I opened this old thread and saw that my question was the last post, 5 months ago, haha. So I'll ask in a different way.

The wheels I'm looking at have the following specs:
17"
7" ET55
8.5" ET 48

What is the maximum offset/spacers anyone is running with zero problems? If you give me your wheel width I can use this to correlate to this wheel set and decide what size spacers I would need.

Thanks
-Phil
