Someone please buy my Jetta
#1

I was just wondering if anyone on here would be interested in my 2002 Jetta Wagon. Only has 35K on it. VR6 5spd. Tasteful OEM upgrades. Please check it out on the link:

SF Craig's List

Price is negotiable. Let me know if you have any questions. The new reason why I am selling it is to pay off the 968. Which will eventually allow me to save enough money to make way for a 3.2 Carrera or 964.

Thanks,

Brian

Guys,

I really need help selling this thing. The only person who has come to see it is a mom. She really wasn't the type to like the upgrades. I am not really sure why she decided to look at my car since I listed what I have done to the car.

I have this car posted in 2 other VW forums.

I updated the think link above. Can you guys take a look and see if I should change or add anything to help me sell it quicker? I am getting really annoyed at this point. I am not going to give this car away either. I shouldn't have to. I think what I am asking for is fair. What do you guys think?

TIA

Brian

Looks like well written ad. Pretty neat little car. I wish people would buy these instead of SUV's.

I think you're hitting the wrong market on craigslist. At first glance I would also consider it a candidate for a baby-carrier (we're actually looking for a small wagon and the Jetta is on the search list -- but it must be an automatic....). And this crowd won't appreciate your mods.

Can you un-mod -- sell the car as stock and sell the modification parts separately?

You know, I knew a guy up in Seattle named Joe Chen. But anyways, I hear you on the wrong market. But I also thought about the fact that this reaches quite a few different people at the same time. At this point I need as much exposure for this car as I can.

I also have it on VWVortex.com and for my buddies on Passatworld.com. I have a few out of state interest but I am not comfortable with doing an out of state transaction except for maybe with someone in Washington where I am from originally. In other words I have the resources to do a transaction like that in Washington.

I am trying to avoid un-modding the car. I no longer have the original suspension or stock headlights and taking this stuff off and trying to sell it seperately, I do not want the hassle of having to ship it out. I know I'm being lazy in that sense but I do not have as much time to do it. Maybe I will try to post it in the Seattle Craig's List as well.

Just having so much trouble with no interest that I was starting to wonder if I just can't see what I'm doing wrong. I'll take your guys' input to see if I can change something.

Thanks,

Brian

I like it but I'm saving up for a 968. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Don't know what else to tell you other than good luck!

Brian,

As you already know, money spent on mods does not increase the value of a car when you go to sell. If anything a "modded" car sells for less than a low mile original "stock" example.

So, mods are great and fun if they add value to the owner during ownership. However, when spending the time, money and effort "changing" a stock car, hte owner should clearly understand that the car is being alterted to suit the modder's tastes (thus, a modded car is more difficult to sell as it appeals to a narrower market).

Also, money spent on mods is rarely (if ever) recouped when the car is sold. Furthermore, spending dough to un-modding a car is unlikely going to be recouped by selling the USED mod parts on eBay/Craigslist.

If you're looking to get the most for your V-Dub, you should consider broadening your buying base. eBay is an effective tool to reach many buyers on a national level. Don't be intimidated, as bank wire transferfs for payment and enclosed shipping companies make national buying/selling safe, easy and effective.

Also, if you get a "soccer mom" buyer, don't stress the mods as the selling point. Consider the attributes that are important to the buyer. Also, your "frustration" is of no consequence to a potential buyer; and lastly, it is not the buyer's responsibility to "make-you-whole financially" or to assist you in achieving the price "you need" for the car.

In other words, put yourself in the buyers shoes and create value in his/her interest.

my 2 cents,

Porsche

Try Autotrader.com. Costs a few bucks but reaches a lot more people.

I see your points. Believe me I changed my focus when a soccer mom came to see it. I focused in on its versatility and secure handling. Also its build quality. Also the fact that it has been a very reliable car for me during the time that I have had it. I would rather the car be bought by an enthusiast though who can appreciate the work put in. Actually If you look at how much I am selling it for, I am hovering somewhere between Good and Fair price points and not evening including the work I have done.

I guess what my thinking was that an enthusiast would like to buy this car. Thanks for pointing out some of things that I should really rethink.

To be honest, the only reason for me selling is that I want to eventually purchase a 911 and my wife said that I have to sell a car. Maybe it is God telling me that I shouldn't have one right now. But either way, I was caught off guard that no one would want a Jetta Wagon.

I will keep in mind your comments and edit some stuff for the next go around of posting on Craig's List.

You always have great insight Porsche.

swap the wheels back since you have them and sell them on VWVortex, then lower you price.

That's a good idea...sell any of the mods you can to the VW guys. They'll appreciate them more. No doubt the car will sell easier in stock form. Not many soccer moms care about a clutch and sporty performance. Now if you can find a soccer dad who still wants to retain some of the hip factor...

I know what you guys are saying but the thing is my upgrades are all exterior, no engine or drivetrain upgrades. So nothing crazy. Also the rims are not for sale with the car unless they want to buy them for extra. What I am asking for on the car barely includes any of the mods that I have done. It is only $300 over the Fair catagory from KBB online. The mechanicals are in tip top condition. It is only the body that has some imperfections on it which prevent me from asking for much higher.

Plus if no one buys the rims, they are going to go on my Corrado. With correct sized tires of course. It took me almost 6 months to find those rims. The current tires I can switch to a different set of rims for my wife's car. They are great all seasons.

I appreciate your input tho.
