lol - no chance for me anymore

that's a new record by almost 2 hours

that beats our time by a long shot when we did the run 20 years ago in the twin turbo 240Z - as i remember, brock had done it in just under 36, we almost made 37 - i was bummed at happy at the same time - fun run, but nerve wracking and exhausting

I found this on another Forum..

My guess is the owner is preparing a cross country record attempt ala 32 Hours 7 Minutes.

Search internet-

"Alex Roy"

"The Driver"

"32 Hours 7 minutes" a film based on the US Express transcontinental race from the early 80's

You can find the Trailerat http://www.32hours7minutes.com/32-hours-7-...fficial-trailer

Basically what you will find is information on well prepared, highly documented transcontinental speed record runs. Alex wrote a book, and is producing the film on the subject. He is the current record holder posting a transcon time of 31 hours 4 minutes in an E46 M5. The run is documented in both the book, and the upcoming film.

I am guessing the mysterious off camera owner is looking to break Alex Roy's record using this R8. Due to the outlaw nature of the record it is impossible to make a claim publicly until a year has passed due to statutes of limitation regarding speed law enforcement.

He may have already done it.

lol - the statute of limitations is 3 years in many states

there was a very well publicized multi-car event dating back to the early 70s - it was the "baker sea to shining sea" - also known as the "cannonball run" (one of my favorite movies, which inspired our run in the late 80s)

i'd love to do it again, but the odds are slim

Hmmm...can you say simulataneous transcontinental sub 31 Hours runs, 2 968's, one East to West while the other going West to East?

Sounds like an Algebra problem for the Police...LOL

If a heavily modified Audi R8 leaves the Santa Monica Pier at 8:00 am heading east at a rediculous rate of speed, and a modified BMW M5 leaves Coney Island New York at the same time travelling west, also at a ridiculous speed, at what location do they pass each other? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Shoot - I did Pittsburgh to San Diego in 36 hours, in a minivan with 2 kids, a wife, and a dog, including a 2-hour nap.
