Seat repeat
#1

So I'm sitting out in the garage, sipping an adult beverage and commenced to figuring on fixin' up the ol' interior. I break out with the pad and pencil and do some armchair figuring and mozy off to check my estimates on the internet. I start doing my research, right here on the forum of course, and come to the conclusion that I should plan on simply having my current seats recovered or perhaps buy a kit from somebody out there in upholstery land.

Holy mother of pearl!!! I had no idea original-type seat covers were so expensive. Yikes!

Now, in retrospect, I'm thinking on just replacing the original seats with newer seats from a different model Porsche, perhaps a Boxster or one of the 911 series. So I'm asking you all for your expertise in fitment.

What other model Porsche seats will fit our cars without mods or with minimum modding?

Thanks!

it's only about a $500-$700 per seat to redo your seats - that's certainly less than replacing them with just about anything - you can easily spend a lot more - as an example, my seats are $3500 - the hardback fixed porsche seats are more - so are the 12 way heated 993 seats

i would not replace them with used seats unless they were very new (less than 3 years) - the leather dries out over time, and most people don't know how to take care of them - any used seat will very likely soon have the same wear as the seats you just pulled out, and then you would have wasted your money

944 and Any 911 from approx '88 thru 993.
Boxter and 996 seats can be made to work. The rails
need slight modification.
A good set of used seats can be found from $400.

I bought a set of nice 95 968 seats for my 951 a year and half ago for $500 shipped to my house.

the problem with used seats is as i said above, it all depends on the age of the leather - it's very rare to find a good set of used seats - usually they start out looking decent, because the seller dressed them up, but in a short time the age wins out and the seat looks bad again

i'm pretty sure that 996 seats sit higher, so this may be an issue for some

by the time you get a good set of used seats shipped to your house, you're usually well over halfway to a new upholstery job

Thanks for the insight guys. I'm still not sure which way to go. I don't want to deal with purchasing covers (sight unseen) from somebody, pulling the seats out and hauling them off to an upholstery dude whom I've never done business with before, waiting... hoping...praying... waiting.

From the seats I've seen that have been reupholstered on this site and others, I'm frankly not impressed. They never seem to look as good or fit as well as the original covers. I'll admit I'm a little OCD but I don't want to be stuck with reupholstered seats I'm not happy with. Which leads me right back to my original question... which OEM Porsche seats will fit our cars with little or no mods?

Maybe I'll just suck it down and purchase the seats I fell in love with. Those in Flash's car. Just freaking sweet looking seats man!

Thanks again for the input, all.

lol - thanks

i do have an excellent upholstery guy, but you'd have to ship the seats and hope they don't get hurt on the way back, all that stuff

i have not been super impressed with the covers out there either

so far as i've seen, the only seats that truly and directly "fit" in our car are the ones that came in it - everything else takes some fiddling, including mine
