need Original Chip
#21

Flash/Ray -

Your posts got me investigating my own ECU and stock chip. The following data points corroborate Flash's information. For background, my car is a '92, VIN NS820089 (29th coupe ever produced); build date is 10/1/91.

ECU #261-203-070 (late ECU)

chip #356-782 (early chip)

FWIW, the Porsche build part number is 944.618.123.01

Trying to solve a probelm I had a year ago, I bought another ECU out of a '95 car, VIN unknown, that I intend(ed) to keep as a spare. Its numbers are as follows:

ECU #261-203-070 (late ECU)

chip #357-459 (late chip)

Porsche build part number is 944.618.123.02

My car was early enough to receive the early chip but not the early ECU, despite being a very early build.

Anyway, nothing earth-shattering here...just thought I'd share <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I'll take down the ECU numbers within the next couple of days when I have a chance and see what we come up with.

also my experience - we can keep up with 928's till about 80-90mph or so and then it's goodbye Mr. Bond . . . 928's really shine at 100+

My 928 can blow my chipped '94 968 off the road from 80mph to 150...no contest. The 928 is my favorite car of the two...but perhaps requires more maintenance to keep it in top shape. The 968 handles nicer on the track. Not really sure why except the 928 motor is REALLY heavy. The 968 is really nimble.
