not sure you can. normally it relies on the gear drive and such to stay put. of course you could screw it or glue it in place and such.......



i suppose you could convert it to a manual only unit, but i think that would be pretty involved.

i'm confused as to what you are trying to achieve. it already "locks" in place due to the gear drive. it won't open until you hit the button.

I put the sunroof back. That sunroof button does not work. The sunroof's front clips work, but the rear section remains unlocked. So, when I drove on highway at high speed, the rear section of the sunroof would float.

have you checked the fuse?



if that's ok, hotwire the button until it locks. if that works, new buttons are relatively inexpensive.

That entire system is fairly complex, and perhaps "over-engineered". The 944, after 1986, has the same set-up as the 968. I repaired sunroof mechanisms in my 944 and 968, and used info on the site as well as the Forums. Here's a link to a site with the best info regarding this part of the car.

You'll find instructions on how to manually operate this system as well as troubleshoot and repair. Your system might be working properly, with one or both of the plastic gears having teeth stripped. This is common. Do you hear anything when you depress the switch to get the arms to

extend and lock the roof in place? If the cable is moving inside the roof, you can usually hear it travel though the channel. The motor that drives it is located inside the fender, behind the carped, over the the driver's side left rear wheel. if you hear grinding, you probably have stripped gears. Not hard to replace. Do them both, and have an extra on hand in case you strip one of the new ones upon installation. It happens....

The sunroof is back to normal. So, I do not need to lock the sunroof manually yet.



I checked the micro-switch which is located between front visors. The switch did not make contact with that BLACK TRIANGLE PIECE, even though the sunroof panel was properly installed. Please note that switch detects if the sunroof panel is installed or removed. At first, that micro-switch somehow was below that Black Triangle Piece.



So, I had to push up that micro-switch with a flat screw driver. Now, I can lock the sunroof panel again.
