Rear Wiper - Help!
#41

And once again, I'm smacking my forehead with a d'uh ! ..I forgot .. The fully functioning " deleted " motor from my other 968 is in a box in the garage, so if it is the motor that's fried...easy switch !
I suppose I might need to use one of those for something or another at some point again, so will pick one up today or tomorrow -
The pins are also great for knitting - not that I'm saying you're a knitting type o' guy. Lol

Half of a knitting kinda' guy. : sometimes I knit-pick ! Lol. Never thought of putting something like RainX on that window, I wonder if those type of products do anything, or if they're mostly hype.. Not bothered so much about the rain, the rear window visibility stays pretty damn good no matter how hard it rains, but having to wipe off that "fog" before getting in the car every morning with a squeegee or a rag or whatnot , and for several months is just too annoying, so gotta keep the wiper only for that, if nothing else ..

rainX works, but it can be messy. i made the mistake of putting it on my denali windshield, and then hitting the wipers. black smeary mess. it seems that it's one or the other, not both.

i used it a lot on the mgb though, as the wipers were all but useless.

would probably work well on the rear glass

Adam's make a superior product to Rain-X...shoot Darryl an E-mail or check out his page (Odds and End Detailing).

Yes, Adam's Glass Sealant is much better than Rain-X. It is best to clay the glass prior to application but you don't have to.

ok - here's a question:

for those of us who have an SUV, we all know how dirty the rear window gets, long before the rest of the car. we also know how nasty it is to try to clean it, and avoid having to clean the rest of the car. so, how well does this stuff do at preventing that gunk from sticking to the window?

it's pretty effective at doing just that. Anything that does get on there simply hoses off. Speaking of which, I should put some on our Cayenne. There is always a light coat of dust on that rear window.....

I'm now eating my words ( 'ya know, where I said that on this car I'm not going to delete the rear wiper because of this and because of that..). So I removed the old motor to replace it with the one I had put away from the other 968, but then paused for about a minute staring at the hatchback glass and thought : aw, screw it ! , I'm deleting this one also . I have the Adam's polishes glass protector ( the rich man's RainX ) coming in a day or two and I also have a squeegee which I keep next to handbrake so will use that to remove the rear window morning frost, mist, dew, etc while the car is warming up for the 30 seconds to 1 minute which it desperately needs to function ( damn tiptronics, they need to warm up before you get going ) so I used the wiper delete plug I also kept as a spare , and off we go !

Your in august company Dan. I took it off the red car and love the look. The rear hatch and frost or most is a minimal problem!

For sure, and that was the first mod on my blue 968, days after I bought it. Aesthetically there is little debate, and form over function has always ruled in my world, lol, but just thought for a daily driver that function over form would be more important. As I mentioned earlier, driving in the rain without the rear wiper is not that much of a problem, it was just the thought of morning clear-up routine that bothered me... Eh, little inconvenience for better looks. And hey, I can really feel the power of the supercharger now after removing that extra 2 lbs that was slowing the car down. :-)
