I replaced those speakers a couple of years ago. If no one provides the information by Tuesday, that's when I'll be in my office where I have my parts purchase records and I'll tell you what Boston speakers I put in.

4x6...BUT, what factory options do you have? If you have amps, then you have regular speakers back there. If you don't have amps, then the speakers may be self powered (amps built-in) and in an enclosed box type unit. You could replace them with regular speakers, but it will require some creative wiring to get sound out of them.

Check your option code sticker and let us know. I can provide more details when I'm at my office tomorrow.

yes, I think the only thing I've learned about the stereo setups was that there were lots of combinations and the only way to know is to take it apart and see!

I think the key piece of info for Robert is if he has powered enclosures, he won't be able to just pop an off the shelf 4x6 in there.

The '94 & '95 Cab models that have the M490 option have the 10 speaker sound system that have rear enclosures with amps mounted in them that contain a 3 1/2" mid speaker and separate 1" tweeter mounted in those enclosures. I am currently upgrading that same exact system in my '94 Cab, and have determined that a slimline 4" component system from Audiobahn will fit in place of the stock Nokia speakers (and still clear the rear of the enclosure) as long as you open up the large hole for the 3 1/2' speaker so that the 4" will mount the same from under the mount plate and onto the same screw lugs located on the plate itself. The Audiobahn tweeter can be glued to a thin plate that in turn is screwed in place of the stock nokia tweeter using the same screw holes as well. The crossover supplied with the Audiobahn 4" component speaker system can be mounted in place of the original amp that was mounted to the enclosure plate as long as you take that crossover circuit board out of the plastic enclosure it comes in, and then wire it all up to the two component speakers. An aftermarket radio with internal amps can then power this rear speaker conversion setup.

I also plan on changing out the front speakers with a complete Audiobahn 5 1/4" component system (5 1/4" low-mid with separate 1" tweeter) along with a separate Audiobahn 3 1/2" high-mid speaker all run thru the stock Porsche 3 way crossover system. Hopefully my aftermarket Panasonic radio with 70W/channel (31W RMS) will be able to power all these speakers?

Lastely, I am installing Merlon low profile 10" subwoofer speakers (only 3 1/2" deep) in the top of the cubby storage area with a low profile Sony mono amp under the passenger seat (it just barely fits since it is only 1 3/4" tall and 7 5/8" deep x 8 7/8" wide).

This should make for a fairly good sounding system for not too much cost overall!!

TLOOF did you finish the upgrade? How's everything sound? Can you post some pics, especially for the underseat amp install and the wiring to that.

Thanks

i just got done messing with a set of the enclosed speakers from the 10 speaker setup

the woofer in the enclosure is indeed 4" - it may measure 3.5, but standard 4" speakers from kenwood and pioneer fit fine, and line up perfectly - however, they did not sound as good as the nokia, and did not drive as hard, so i kept the nokias in there - the nokia tweeters actually sound pretty good

the enclosure itself needed some work to sound right though, and the crossover needed to change - sounds very good now though - it did take a good amount of power to get it going - i am driving it from 2 channels of a sony xplode, and cutting off the bottom at 100hz at 12db/octave

it has now become part of a rather involved system, that became much more than i originally intended (lol - big news flash there), but i am much happier
