Rear speaker size?
#1

What is the size of the rear speakers in a 6 speaker setup (Cabriolet)? I know I should just pull the trim piece and look, but I'm sure someone here knows the answer. Thanks.

I also have a question on the rear 4x6s: Will Boston Acoustics 4x6 plate speakers fit? These are the speakers that have circular rather than eliptical cones, but are still mounted on what is advertised as a 4x6 plate. Also, if they fit, has anyone had good experiences with them?

What about in the 10 speaker coupe?

Pete, the Bostons should work in there and actually be better than most elliptical speakers in sealing off the area in front of the speaker from the area behind the speaker since the mounts back there are kinda funny shaped. I found that with some elliptical 4 x 6 speakers there is a little space in areas between the edge of the speaker and the edge of the mounting bracket. Personally, though, I wouldn't spend any great ammount of money on speakers to go in that location. It is hard to get good low end since there isn't much structure to the mounts and they take such small speakers. On the other hand, the speakers are so close to the seat backs that first, the driver's side speaker will drown out most of the highs from the passenger's side and second, the passenger's side seatback blocks some of those highly directional highs. If you don't mind removing/modifying that back cubby, that area would be a better candidate for rear speakers.

actually, the new ones i just got, with some toys to work with them, do a very nice job of low mids - they go down to 45hz - not a sub, and certainly not big bottom end, but nice low mids

i'm going to wrap up the install in the next couple of days (show coming up) and i'll post the specifics

Flash, the speaker may go down to 45hz in an ideal situation but in the mounts in the back of a cab? That's pretty much an open air application. Simpler than it would be to modify that area, you could, say, get 6x9 boxes and put them on the shelf, behind the seat, or in the trunk facing forward so you could expose them when you put the seatbacks down. This way you can get the sound you want without losing too much aesthetics.

i don't want to lose any space back there - in fact, i removed my storage boxes for more space - remember, i'm only using the 4x6s for low mids, not for bottom end, and i've addressed the open air issue - i'll post pics soon
