Rear Seat Delete
#1

Has anyone tried this rear seat mold from Deutsch Nine or know of a local (NA) maker of such an item? Thought it might be neater than just ripping out the seat and glueing carpet directly to the transaxle housing (after the sound mat of course!)

I haven't tried it, but it sure does look nice. How much do they want for it?

IMHO, the cab storage cubbies are better for a car that gets driven.
As an added bonus, you get some.......storage.

I like the storage cubbies better then the CS type Carpet. Its more exclusive, i've seen only one other (Pat's old car). It's also more utilitarian, as i can actually use the cubbies as storage.

Someone on another forum suggested 500.00 but I haven't heard back from the supplier yet. I am waiting on a quote for a plain aftermarket seat delete carpet and will post the cost when I get it.
I was looking to reduce some weight so putting the cubbies in would defeat the purpose although they do add more functionality.

I think the cubbies save about 15lbs. over the seats.

Just got a quote from nineapart.com and they want 500.00 for the cubbies + freight. That's a lot of single malt.
Might just go for the removal of the seats and get a quote from an upholsterer to make it look nice.

You should be able to find cubbies in the $200 range.

Can't seem to find one right now on eBay or the Interweb ( Tks Jeremy). I've got a few emails out there for a rear seat delete carpet kit so we will see what the best route becomes $ wise. Other problems is shipping on the cubbies, probably the same price as the box to the wet coast

Shipping would be more like $40.

I'd love to swap my rear seats for a pair of cubbies, but in the UK they're rarer than rocking horse poop!

Kind of curious as to the complaints about removing the glue when you take out the back seat. Why remove the glue at all? I removed my seat yesterday, cleaned up a few lumps of cement at the front edge of the seat/bit of fuzz at the top back and then plastered the whole area with B-Quiet. Whatever glue was left is just helping the sound barrier stick even better.
Maybe mine just came out really nicely and others had the area caked with that nasty glue depending on whether Fritz had a hangover or not that day?

Cubbies would probably be nice, but there's aready so much storage space in a coupe, much of it hide-able, that I don't see the huge advantage of cubbies. I would think the weight savings from deleting the rear seats, and replacing them with the molded piece by Deutsch Nine, would be huge. You could add the chassis brace, and probably still be down a few pounds. I wonder what this piece would do to the noise level, though, as I imagine the padding from the seats absorbs some of the road din bouncing off the hatch glass.

Well if it's only weight I'm laughing as there was almost no glue anywhere, just added < 1 Kg. back with the sound dampening. I imagine the carpet will be a kilo or so as well. Since I'm adding back RSB sways and both front braces I should come out about even. Now if I could only loose 30 lbs in the drivers seat

The carpet patch is a nice touch for those who want it.

I think Flash should sell replicas of his subwoofer enclosure.

lol - you aren't the first one to say that

maybe someday i will - the problem is getting people to break loose with the money, because there are so many self contained subs out there for so much less - i've got about $1000 into mine, counting amps and drivers

the enclosures alone would probably have to sell for at least $250, but would come with the internal treatments, banana connectors, hollowfill, and the template for the baffle plate - you would have to go out and get a piece of MDF and cut that yourself and cover it with whatever you wanted

the other problem is that there is only one driver out there that will work in this size of enclosure, and it isn't terribly cheap at $120 each (even if you go to one of those wacky internet sites)

then you get to buy a really good amp, or two

it gets pricey - i don't think anybody is really willing to do that, and if you don't, you end up with something that doesn't sound very good

Did I say replica? Yes, seems I did. How about a drawing or build plan?
