Radio Help Needed
#1

I decided to tackle installing a new radio on my 93 968. the prev. owner put in a sony that had poor reception and no AM at all. My guess is that the antenna boost was not installed.

I found the little red/black antenna boost wire, but I don't know where to put it in my new radio harness? Also, the antenna wire has another little wire in the insulation. I think the prev. owner changed the antenna plug to fit the Sony and installed that little black wire in the auto antenna pin.

Where should I put the antenna boost wire (the red and black one) using the new Panasonic harness?

The Panasonic harness has:

Power Lead +12v to ACC power

Ground lead

Battery lead

and External Ammp Control Lead also called the Motor Antenna Relay Control Lead

and the speaker leads

Any help appreciated

I have no booster and very good reception. Are you in/near a city?

If the booster is powered, and the red/black wire went to the booster, red/black wire was most likely to switched power. Not sure though....

Also, i have the mast antenna.

actually, if your antenna system is stock, you have a booster up in the roof area

pretty sure the red/black goes to the remote turn on lead (typically blue) - i seem to be having a hard time remembering though -senility setting in

Yes, both of the above replies are corret...antennae amp/booster gets it's power from a switched lead...ie, only on when the radio is on. It is indeed the red/black smaller guage wire.

Just a note: I removed the booster and wiring from rear roof location and placed it in the trash. New radio and new antenna wire and new antenna and NO reception problems.

yeah - if you replaced the entire rf cable, then it would work fine - there is no interruption like there is with the booster - i have often wondered why they went the route of the booster rather than just a better cable and antenna - it's like they went out of their way to reinvent the wheel
