reverse light and rear window heater/demister problem
#1

Hi Guys

I'm back for yet more help.... sorry!!

As title says both reverse lights and rear window demister are not working a quick look at the fuse box showed that they both run of the same fuse a 30amp. I thought great must just be a fuse so i replaced it and it blew its self immediately.I tried this 2 mopre times with the same results.

Any ideas? all other fuses are ok and they both have worked in the past a little confused by this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

regards

not sure if it's power or ground, but it's for the demister/defogger thingy. no idea if there is a common point with the reverse lights. i haven't looked at the diagram.

Could be the hatch wire mentioned by Flash. Mine was broken and demister didn't work. Fixed it and voila! demister works again. It is located on a left side of the hatch (driver's) next to the shock which helps to raise the hatch.

Quick update i found the wire it was broken on the offside of the car connected to the strut. i reconnected it but the fuse blew immediately. I then disconnected the one on the strut and put a new fuse in still it blew again. As i disconnected it i assume the problem is something to do with the reverse light side as the fuse still blew.

Any help would be great.

well, now you get the distinct pleasure of tracing the power wires to the short.

i would start by removing the bulbs from the reverse lights and seeing if the short is there.

listen to Bob, he's worked on more British cars than just about anybody so if there is a problem with electronics, chances are he's seen it.. one of those " been there, done that " scenario ..

Btw, talking about rear window heaters : you do know why British cars have rear window heaters, right ? It's so your hands don't freeze when you push the car home in cold weather ..

Ok so here is how big an idiot i am. Finally found the problem.

When i fitted the rear wiper delete bung i disconnected the rear wiper plug, which i know is fine but listen to what i did next, in my infinate wisdom i decided to cut the plug off and tape the wires together, which kept shorting the fuse.

We only realised this when the wires that were taped together decided to smoke and almost catch fire......

Now i have another problem which is the i need to disconnect the wires from the fuse box for the wiper as the wires somewhere within the car are shorting as the fuse keeps blowing.Probably as over the last month they have been getting hot!!

Please can you advise me on which relay is responsible for powering the wiper.

You are all more than welcome to call me a fool

thanks in advance for any help

You will also have to find the Porsche part number for the smoke you let out. It has to be replaced or the car won't fail properly. I believe it's kept in the ECU at about .3 bar.
