driver's electric window not operating
#1

The drivers window does not go down. The switch is good as are the fuses and the relay because the passenger side goes down with its own switch and the switch on the driver's side. I have checked the wiring and according to Clark's garage, I am not getting power to the number 4 pin. But I have been getting troublesome readings with my meter and I bought a new one because my old one did not make sense. Even with the new one , my readings indicate the switches should not work but they do. Anyway, I was wondering if the motor itself is Ok. There is a blue and a black and blue wire that go directly to the motor. I tried to apply 12 volts directly to the motor through those wires. The motor hums but does not turn. If I switch polarity it hums again but no motion. Is this a valid test, or does it tell me nothing. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Did you disconnect the motor from the system when testing?

Did you see the axle from the motor turning when it humps (might be worn gears).

Otherwise maybe cleaning and greasing all joints which put the window up and down might be a solution, as well as the bearing parts from the motor.

Today I tried a battery and it did not make a difference so tomorrow I will disassemble the whole thing and see what happens. It has to be my next step. Thank you for the suggestions.

Thank you Jay. I am still around and doing pretty well. I have been tutoring kids who are smart but totally uneducated.  I do not know if there has been a 968 gathering for some time.

Today,

I removed the motor and assembly from the door. At first putting power to the motor it did not run. SO I took it off the frame and uncovered the gear assembly. I could not see anything so I put power to it and it ran well. I put it back in the frame and tried to run it and it ran fine again. It runs full travel in both directions. And checking on the power to the switches today all of the readings made sense. So tomorrow I will try to reassemble the whole thing checking along the way and I ill see what happens. I am beginning to think maybe this whole thing is a mirage, but it has not worked for a couple of months.

How has the job progressed? I was thinking that maybe you have a dead spot on the armature which kills the motor when the brush lands on that spot. That would explain why the motor works without a load.

It could be the door window switch itself.  I had the drivers side fail. The passengers side worked fine from both the switch on the drivers side and from the switch on the passengers. side. I bought a pack of switches on ebay, not expensive. You might try just swapping the two switches on the drivers door and see if the problem still exists before tearing into the motors, wiring etc.

I finally put it all back together and it works. It sounds much different but it works well and I am not sure why it did not work before. I did reverse a switch assembly so the passenger door window went up when the down side was pushed and  went down when the up side was pushed. I disassembled the switch and turned it around and it works as it should. Thank you to ll of you for your suggestions. I have another issue going on. I need to start another thread unless I can find it in the library.
