Quicker steering
#1

Hello,

For racing I would appreciate a quicker steering, approx 2 turns. Are there any solutions around except to rebuild the rack and pinion?

It might take some fabrication to install, but look into a small gearbox that quickens the ratio from the shaft to the rack.

Thanks, interesting. Do you know if there is any 968 with this steering quickener around? It looks great but how to get it in.

I know of no installations. Only that the unit exists. There are other manufacturers of similar units as well. It is configured to bolt directly to GM steering splines.

If one was to try and install one in a 968, you would have to saw off the steering shaft, machine an adapter, fabricate a bracket that holds the gear box rigid to the chassis and probably do some TIG welding as well. A snap for a racing team. Not so easy for garage mechanic.

since we have a double u-joint shaft in there, a new shorter shaft might be the ticket - i'm going to poke around in there and see what i can come up with
