i'm pulling my valve cover to replace my hall sensor. while i have this off is there anything i should do/inspect? also, i havce some oxidation on my valve cover, does anyone have any reccomendations for cleaning this up?

Todd,

You do not have to pull the cover to get to the Hall sender. It is right next to the cover behind the distributor.

If you do pull the cover, inspect the Variocam tensioner pads and the sprockets on the cams. Replace the cover seal and the four spark plug seals.

I waiting for the onslaughts of suggestions on how to clean the valve cover - and the vanity cover. I'm hoping someone has a good way to clean (after which I'll put on some wax or Rejex) rather than powder-coating.

lol - i'm lazy - i'd have it dipped or bead blasted, and then powder coated - total cost should be about 80 bucks tops and take a couple of days

Steam cleaning will probably work better than most solvents. When I tried cleaning mine nothing worked to my satisfaction and so I had both covers powdercoated. They really look good now and are easy to keep clean with just a wipe with a soft cloth. The PORSCHE letters from JAGENG really set it off too, good luck, Bob Blackwell.

okay, i'm not seeing how this part is supposed to come out without removing the valve cover. i see where the part is and i see both of the bolts holding it in, but there is no way to get a a wrench on either of the bolts without removing the valve cover or the piece that the hall sender is attached to. can anyone who has replaced this part help me out here?

Todd, you are correct, the valve cover must come off. The only other way is to pull all the belts, ignition rotor, cap, cam pully, and rear belt cover, and that's no fun <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
