Porsche radio compatibility question...
#1

CD2 vs. CDR23

Still trying to sort out a replacement radio for the CD-2 radio that no longer works. It was

never that great to begin with so I am not crestfallen that I have to swap it out.

Is the CDR23 radio compatible with wiring/size for install in the 968?

Thanks for responding. There is one on Ebay and if I can sort out if it is compatible, I

will make the deal.

Thanks friends.

Scott...for that price you could have navigation/dvd/cd....there was a thread not to long ago....

There should be physical dimensions for the radio you listed by Porsche...other than fitment it’s a wiring job to sort out...good luck

Luke,

Thanks for the tip.

What make/model would you install, if you were doing nav/dvd/cd? Previous threads had

a DIY and a $600-700 price tag, but that's not happening. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> $250-300... That CAN happen. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Thanks.

Well I was completely lazy and for 300 and change went to Best Buy...purchased Alpine...can’t remember the model off hand...typical radio/cd player...nothing fancy and had them install...now a lot of people may frown on this and normally I would...however the guy installing I’ve known for more than 10yrs...felt fairly confident he wouldn’t screw it up. Had a bass tube installed at the same time and this proved to be the best overall addition to the set up.

No Nav...it wasn’t available yet...lol

I know if you remove the storage tray underneath the radio the space become large enough to accommodate most dvd/cd/nav radio set ups...ck out crunchfield...they generally carry good pricing for there inventory

cdr23 will not work, I believe it requires an optical loom. cdr 22 will work but if you wish to see the display it would need the Becker modification (view angle is wrong). cdr21 will definitely work, not sure it is straight plug in, but believe it is.

I use the old fashioned folding 2D maps found at the gas station.

Or I print out from one of the mapping sites.

I did however, buy a new Alpine 9887, which has awesome sound quality.

although, any change in head unit will only be as good as your speakers.
