I have seen spy photo's of the new Porsche 928 and thought what about a new 968 model. So, I decided to put my limited Photoshop skills to work and create a mock-up of the "2012" Porsche 968.
I used Porsche parts (i.e. Carrera GT Headlights, Cayman rear side vents, 997 911 front, etc.) when creating my prototype. This way I would hopefully keep the Porsche theme. I hope you enjoy!

Very nice. Our cars have great lines and it doesn't take much to make them look fresh. The 944 roofline/hatch would have to go.

Flash, just get a hold of an injection mold company and have a new front end created. God, what would that cost? Then it is just a matter of cutting in those headlights......should be done in a month.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the comments. I debated the "whale tail" on the back of the car or not. I would love to see Porsche introduce a new version of the 968. In any event, here is a version without the tail.

This looks like a Ferrari model I saw in a magazine. I can't remember if it was a design exercise or a real car.

Well, I was trying to create something that looked sporty. However, I was not looking at anything else when I created the mock-up. It's funny that it ended up looking similar to several cars. I have always thought that the 968 had some similar features to the Ferrari's (i.e. two door coupe 599 GTB). It would be interesting to have a discussion on "what the new 968 would be like?". I was also hoping it would inspire others to put up there own ideas for a "new porsche 968". Thanks for all of the comments!

I've been enjoying this thread but realized I hadn't posted yet. Great pics! Awesome photoshopping!
Re a new 968, as excited as I would be, I don't see how it would fit in the current range - I mean, the Cayman fills the spot right now, but trades off front engine utility for mid engine performance.
A new 928 I can see, plus it's easy to pull off - Panamera chassis makes a coupe version just a modification. I for one am excited about the new 928 - loads more exciting to me than the Ferrari 599 which I think looks pretty ugly.
I think where a new 968 could work would be a smaller hatchback for the utility aspect, get back to the 924/944 'first Porsche' roots with a moderate engine, low weight, tight chassis and handling, and grins all day long. . . they would have to design a new engine though yes? I mean does a flat-fix even fit in a front engine car? I would think it's too tall.

Schweeet pics. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
Those headlights just made my '92 seem like a '72! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
That mod alone brings the car up to date, which says a lot about the design staying fresh. Nice touch, but definately lose the tail....
Someone, anyone, please, make those headlights for real for me and my baby! (...for under $500, plus tax and shipping...)
