Porsche LMP2???
#1

I was speaking to a good friend of mine that i haven't seen in a while today and we began talking about racing. We had plans on meeting in atlanta for the petit lemans to see the new lmp2 car. As you may or may not know, porsche will not bring the car. The want more time to develop the car before they show their cards I guess. He mentioned some rumors that he has heard on some online racing message boards. Basically, some people are saying Porsche might actually scrap the V8 motor and develop a motor to run the car in the LMP1 class. I guess this could be some variant of a V10. There has also been discussion about the body design. Apparenly some "engineer type" message posters have seen some flaws in the design of the rear of the car. They are saying the body we ahve seen might be a "prototype" of the car they would probably use. I questioned why porshe woudl build an lmp2 car and not an lmp1 car. Why would they not go for it all and try to win over all? This is all speculation, and it's coming from sources that i cannot provide. I was wondering if anybody had heard of this or just had some thoughts to add. I love seeing porsche get back into the prototype mix, but would really love them to beat a Giant (audi) killer. Just some thoughts i figured i'd share.

According to AutoWeek it was a gearbox reliability problem.

This does make sense on some levels. With as much as Porsche has on the line with this car it literally needs to be very competetive right out of the box. A DNF in the first race would be a disaster.

Of course 'gearbox reliability' could also be code for all sorts of other things...
