no photos. not many stories. meager showing. a LOT of last minute dropouts, and even more that didn't even bother to call to say they weren't coming. tons of leftovers.

a moment of rant now. maybe i was raised differently, but what's up with the complete lack of social graces of people today? RSVP means "respond please". it doesn't mean "only tell me if you are coming". it doesn't mean "tell me if maybe you are coming". it means tell me either way. it also presumes that you actually do what you say. we shopped for the number that said they would be here, and hired staff to handle that size of a group. less than half of that actually made it. it is incredibly bad form to then not show up. i basically tossed a grand in the crapper. i had a good time with the people who were here, but i was incredibly disappointed in those who just bailed at the last minute.

rant over

That is the difficulty with parties today. One is almost obliged to call people to confirm their coming. It's like begging! We don't do the parties we used to because of this. We also start with 14 family members right off the bat so we just stay with them and we all have a good time. They come and don't blow it off. Social graces are a lost art form. Perhaps people are uncomfortable lying as to why they can't come so they just don't do anything.

that's the thing, i'm fine if somebody can't come. i'm even so so with people who just fail to respond. the one that bugs me is when they say they will be there, and then bail. that's lame. the whole reason i asked for a response was so i could do the shopping and hiring appropriately. had i have known i was going to have the numbers i had, i would have planned very differently.

Bummer, I also think lack of the basic social graces is not only inconsiderate but entirely inexcusable.

no worries. i still had a great time with those who did show up. it just bugs me that i went through more work and expense than i had to, and have all the wasted food and stuff. even the dogs are tired of leftovers.

lol - it is definitely something i have noticed that is lacking here in socal. when i lived up there, i never ran into this kind of issue. sure, i had some flakey friends that couldn't commit to anything, but i knew about them and planned accordingly. again, i have no issue with somebody having other plans, or being unable to attend. i even have little issue with people canceling a couple of days out. but confirming attendance, and then just bailing, is not acceptable. one guy had his car break down, and i get that. stuff happens. but the rest still have not done anything in the way of apologizing or anything. bad form. i'll remember that the next time they ask for a favor.

the good news was that we got a chance to test drive the new and second outdoor living room. worked out great. we now have very comfortable outdoor seating for 20, all in small conversation groups, spreading from one outdoor living room past the outdoor bar, kitchen and dining area in the middle, wrapping around the back of the house to the other outdoor living room. it will make for a very nice flow, and avoid the bunching up in the family room and indoor bar.

My apologies if I led you to believe I was going, I expressed my desire to go but said I had planned vacation at the same time. It would have been an awesome party to attend, I still regret not being able to go.

lol - can't decide yet if we are staying or not. if we stay, we are adding a second story above the living room with a gym, bathroom, office and large game room.

re" golf course - funny you should say that. from our yard, looking out the back through the new glass wall, it looks like a golf course, because we back up to a 5 acre park. i sometimes go out there and work my short game.
