Sat 12/6 - come watch USC-UCLA game at Flash's
#21

Flash,

A quick thank you for hosting today. I wish I wasn't so busy this past couple of weeks or I would have caught this thread. I do appreciate the phone call at the last minute and glad I was able to make it for a little bit. I did plan on staying longer but when the wife calls and said she smelled something like gas in the house, it was probably best that I took off. It turned out being something that took me an hour or so and a trip to the hardware store to repair but by then, it was hard to tear myself away from the routine again.

What a great group of guys. I continue to be impressed by the quality of people and dedication of Porsche people. There is so much that I wanted to ask today and discuss. I have a lot to learn about these cars but I already have some homework thanks to you guys. I wish I could have jumped in the S/C but maybe next time. Looks like a great project. Hope you get it all sorted out soon!

Just wanted to give Flash and the guys a quick thanks. I hope to be better prepared next time (and have many more mods completed by then). Hope your pulling out of your tailspin, Flash. I'm sure it's nothing a little sleep and a lot of Advil can't cure...

thanks to Bob once more, and ( not surprisingly... cause I knew it would be worth it ) well worth the 1,000+ miles I put on the car to get there and back !

enjoyed seeing friends again, meeting new ones.. good day all around. good wine, good beer , good tequila, good food, great people, great cars, great conversation, what more can anyone ask for ?!

saw about 10 min of the game, which is enough for me.. if it's not Ohio State, it's not a real football team in my book

Jeff's SC968 was a blast to take for a spin ! that baby's got torque !!

got the new heatshield in ( will post comments on results under that thread )

got the new Bosch Icon wiper blades ( inspired by Ron's car, the moment I saw how they looked on it ).. probably

will never use them though because I don't drive the 968 in the rain, but to me worth the $40 just to give the car a cleaner, more updated look

made it back in record time, probably the fastest LA-SF segment run out of the 80 or 100 trips in the last 25 years

for about 10-15 seconds I had it run maxed out in 6th gear, past the factory redline to a bit over 7000rpm ( I have the racer X chip which will let it go to 7800 I think, but the car had nothing more to give in 6th past 7k ) and the speedo needle was at 170 mph , so I'm guessing I was pretty close to 160mph .

I KNOW that all the way up to and including 100 mi I have O error ; I unwillingly tested this it at 80 mph and another time on this trip at 100 mph, approaching those electronic boards that say your speed is " ___ " , but I'm sure at "170" there is a major delta at play . BTW, smooth as silk at 140mph, but wind tunnel strength noise and some serious turbulence / vibration happening at 160+ . however, the car still feels planted and in control.

I swear one of these days I'll either be posting from jail, posting bail, or posting post-mortem

Thanks to Ayn and Bob for a fun filled day. Great to meet a few new people (Jeff- your SC was badass and there is no doubt once everything is sorted you are going to have a monster on your hands) and see old friends. Finally got the new (flash) strut tower brace on the car and it looks so much better then the KLA I've used for the past 4 years....very happy. The new heat shield was installed as well (nice piece...very tidy) and will report any changes in temps. Thanks again!

And my thanks again as well Flash for everything. You and Ayn are truly gracious hosts. What a great time I had meeting new friends and talking cars and football. I guys dream day.

Ron--what can I say. You hooked a brother up bigtime (I was the lucky recipient of his old KLA strut tower brace after Flash installed his new brace, which is bee-ute-eeful). Thank you thank you thank you. So when do I get to buy you that beer?

Dan--I'm really glad you made the trek down from the Bay Area. It was great meeting you. In response to your drive back, let me tell ya something--it's great to hear someone who actually 'uses' their car! I've never had the heuvos to take my car past a buck thiry five. Hey, these cars were meant to be driven, right? Any luck on the horn issue?

One last thing I must say, since I know these guys won't toot their own horn, I will. What absolutely BEAUTIFUL examples of our car do these guys have. Truly immaculate 968s that were a wonder to behold. You'd never believe that any of their cars were pushing 15 years old. No way! Cheers gentlemen.
