old and forgetful
#1

you know it's been too long since you drove your car when:

you forgot if the car has a cruise control indicator light and/or where it is

you don't remember what the little rectangle on the instrument cluster on the left side does, which corresponds to the high beam indicator light on the right side - is that an ROW thing? rear fog lights or daytime running lights maybe?

I have some-timers (not full fledged all-timers yet). So what is the little rectangle for?

When you let your car idle a bit then put 'er in reverse only to feel the snag of the e-brake that you forgot to disengage.

Hell, I drive a Jetta, Toyota P/U, 944 S2 and a 968. I have no idea if I'm in reverse or where it is half the time. Up to the left, down to the right, down to the left Let the clutch out slowly and see which way you are a'headin.

Reminds me that I had an argument with my eldest son about letting a 968 idle a bit to let it warm up. The Porsche 968 driver's book says that you are not to allow the car to idle, but rather to drive it as soon as it has started. I won the argument.

I'd never saw a controllight for the cruisecontrol? Is that typically US?

no cruise control indicator. The little rectangle, i think, is for balancing the dash. If you take the gauge cluster out and look through that rectangle into a light there is no icon imprinted on the plastic.

Wow, Kim, that's really nice of you to take your instrument cluster out so that you could answer Flash's question. You're quite the man!

When you forgot your car has a Getrag shifter and you put it in 2nd thinking it is 1st (like on my ex-931).

When you notice the interior doesn't smell like french fries anymore.

When the fan belt slices a mouse in half.

not only is there no indicator there, light doesn't pass through

however, there is a bulb hole there, as if they were going to do something - i am contemplating using it

no cruise indicator - interesting and odd

If your car has Japanese specification, there is the "EX" warning light.

It indicates catalytic converter overheat.

Lemme guess- since your getting old and forgetful, you're going to incorporate an upshift indication light to help you know when to shift!?!?

Bernd - how come you car shows the speedo as 260km/h max? Mine shows 300km/h max on both cars (a US one and a Canadian one). Any chance the speedo has been replaced with one from a 944?

Kim, it's not the speedo of my car, it's from a 944 S2 in Japanese spec.

Brian - mine has the little indicators but there are no lights in behind. Maybe only for US cars?

Maybe for people who do not have hearing or sight and want to drive their automatic as if it were a stick!
