no heat
#1

Finally back driving after my back operation and no pain. Whoopee! However, I have not heat. Turned the temperature dial all the way to the right and had nothing but cold air. Went to IMA and they removed the vacuum line to the Heater Control Valve and the heat returned. So, my question is what controls the HCV? Going to take it back tomorrow but I thought someone here mihgt have had the same problem.

Glad to hear the operation was successful!

Perhaps you have a bad or failing HCV? Have them replace it anyway- cheap part and you will know for sure it is new and not problematic. I keep a spare in the glovebox. Tried to find the metal Audi version but had no luck- ended up just getting the OEM plastic version.

P.S. Don't forget to follow your physical therapy instructions for your back...

Could be the HVAC controller, sounds like moving the controller to hot isn't triggering the vacuum actuator on the HCV.

Check the plastic clips under the dash, it is common failure.

I think the key here is removing the vacuum line from the HCV fixes the heat issue. So it's something in that vacuum circuit.

Thanks, for the quick responses. I knew the forum would come thru. Biotechee, I start physical therapy on Monday. I still have some after effects which I hope the therapy will solve. I have a HCV and will have it repaced will I'm there.

it's not the vacuum line because without vacuum the HCV stays OPEN and warm water passing through the heater

Which is why I was thinking of the controller. The potentiometer in there is known to go bad, which would leave it thinking it's always in the cold position.

Looks like the problem was the solenoid. When the mechanic went to check out it started to work. So now it back to normal, i.e. I can vary the heat with the temperartue controller. However, I ordered a new solenoid if it fails again. As a aside, I can't tell you how great it is to drive without pain in my leg. I had the condition for about 9 months. Too bad it's winter time as all I want to do is drive, drive, drive.
