btw, have you put the OEM catback on a scale to see how much it weighs, and compare it with the new exhaust's weight ?

To this day I regret I did not do that when I bought my BB catback, and there are no figures that i could find anywhere as to how much the BB weighs, nor has anyone who replaced their catback posted here ( that I can recall.. ) how much the OE is ?

I've heard reports ranging from a low of 30 lbs to as much as 70 lbs difference, but never any one who could substantiate the estimates with real tested weight .

The material is Stainless Steel (assume something like 316L).

The weight of the original exhaust is 19,5 kg, the new one has 14 kg.

i am shocked the difference is that small, I guess you simply cannot rely on the hands-o-meter as a good guage [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif[/img]
when I uninstalled and carried the oe piece from of the car it felt as if I needed a crane to help, and then the stainless steel
BB was a feather by comparison.. if someone would have asked me I would have bet money that there was at least a 30 - 40lbs difference b/w the two. so much for my ability to judge weights, guess I'l never work at a carnival / state fair [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif[/img]

Looks really nice. I'd expect it to be a little heavier than some other cat backs since it comes with two mufflers (resonator + muffler). Please post a vid so we can listen to it.

Heard back from BB - their system is 25 lbs , with resonator. Mine does not have a resonator, so I'll assume it's around 22 lbs [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif[/img] If the OE is approx 44 lbs it seems that going to most aftermarket systems, in addition to getting a great sound,
the weight reduction is pretty decent. Of course in my case, I added back 10 lbs worth of dynamat soundproof lining and then far worse, another 12 lbs worth of spacers on the rotating mass - a.k.a. wheels - ( the real equivalent of about 48 lbs to the car ) , so my catback weight savings were wiped out , and then some..

Holy tomole! What are your spacers made of, spent uranium? I have spacers on my front wheels, and they feel like they're only a few ounces each, though I also make no claims as to my ability to judge weight by feel...

he has the ones with the studs built into them (pretty much anything 15mm and up) - when you factor in not only the aluminum, but the studs and extra lug nuts, plus replacing the aluminum nuts with steel (everybody should do that regardless of spacers) it adds up in a hurry

i completely spaced - i went to drop the exhaust out of the car to change the head, and realized that i already returned the stock exhaust back to rustech, and had already installed the rs barn cat-back - so, no confirmation on weight, but i did this back when i was lightening my car and that's what i got

yeah, the spacers themselves weigh practically nothing ! those extra long steel bolts and steel lugnuts are ridiculously heavy.
funny related story - the UPS shipping weight was listed at 15 lbs, i weighed the things by themselves ( several times, and on a very accurate scale ) and came up with 12lbs. the box was small, cardboard and contained only styrofoam peanuts. 'dem were some pretty heavy UPS peanuts if you ask me [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif[/img]

some day I may go to 18s with enough of an offset where I don't have to worry about these things ( not that it'll save any weight, might even be heavier with a bigger wheel , bigger tire, etc ) but that's OT.

I have replaced my bolts with longer ones to keep the weight down to a minimum. As stated, the spacer in it self doesn't add to the total mass a rim with correct offset would have that extra mass instead.

The bolts however add but not that much. Stock bolt is 69 g ea and my longer ones are 90 g ea. That's a difference of 21 g per bolt and the number is funny because my new bolts are 21 mm longer than stock, so as a rule of thumb you can add 1 g per mm of added bolt length (or subtract should you shorten them).

I run steel nuts also too as I find the stock lightweight nuts to be almost scary. I've seen and heard too much about them splitting apart to be able to trust them. If bought new, yes, but my came with the car and who knows how many times they've been off and on in the past.

I did not know BB had a two different mufflers option. Perhpas the resonator system vs. the no resonator one also dictated the kind of muffler which was used with each [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif[/img] I'll measure the muffler when I get home and let you know the dimensions.
