new heat shield coming soon

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->The underhood temperature is noticeably cooler than before.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
@Cloud9: What did you use to measure the difference..? Also did you spend any time in traffic or just dashing down the highway?

it's pretty self evident - as long as either the fans are turning, or you are moving, it really is measurably cooler everywhere else in the engine bay - if you are sitting still long enough, everything heat soaks back up to where it was before, but as soon as the fans kick on, or you start moving again, back down it goes

but, you can pop down for the upcoming tech day, and we can stick one on your car and you can measure before and after it you'd like - it will only take a few minutes

by this weekend, i will have worked out a fix for the problem - i can then have everyone send them back to pete, and i can retrofit them and get them back to you

Sigh...Sending back my one week old 50.00 heat shield at 20.00 USD each way isn't going to happen. Hopefully if there is a problem it's only a minor detraction from the efficiency. I'm sure having a slightly inefficient shield is better than having none

i didn't get a chance to play with the fix yesterday - there are 2 ways this might work, and i'm going to figure out which way works best today - i'll also work it out for you dave, one way or the other

it appears that more shields have turned up that have had the adhesive of the heat barrier material fail - it was supposed to be good up to 300 degrees, and i have a hard time imagining that it gets that hot, as all tests showed the max at just over 240, but nonetheless, it is releasing

my apologies for the inconvenience - none of the testing showed any of these issues, so i had no idea until it got out there - however, i do have a fix, and i'll be retrofitting 3 shields tomorrow - i expect no issues

please contact pete at rs barn, so that we can arrange to either exchange or retrofit yours if it failed

i have not heard anything regarding anyone wanting retrofit

i am fully prepared to retrofit your unit with the pieces needed to correct the problem, and would like to handle this for you

the cheapest way to handle this is to remove the hardware, but leave the heat barrier - wrap the unit in newspaper or something, and stick in a bubble wrap envelope

please contact me for shipping address

For us out of country folk who are technically inclined may I suggest....
If mine does separate can you not mail out the replacement material to retrofit the shield? It would be a lot cheaper and less hassle for all concerned. If is just a matter of stripping, cleaning and re-applying the reflective material that is.

nope - that's not how it's being done - it's not a case of reapplying material - there is no bonding agent that will work any better - i have to drill the shield and attach other components to retain the barrier - that's why i want the barrier left intact - it's VERY expensive stuff

it's pretty easy and cheap to send it to me - i'll ship it back retrofitted at no cost

side note: i'm doing this at no increased cost to the buyer, but now that all existing units are out there, be aware that the new units with these extra parts will be more expensive

i'll post a pic of the retrofitted unit later today or tomorrow so you can understand what is involved

Bob-

Mine has worked itself loose. Do you want PM or email? I can take it off and send tomorrow.

Thanks for your efforts and standing behind your product!

i'll shoot you an email with the address

as i said, please remove the hardware so that it doesn't poke through the envelope - i recommend wrapping it up in paper or cardboard or something

standard post should then be your cheapest way to get it here

I'd reccomend lots of bubble wrap and then wrap that in at least a roll of duct tape. Then put it in a box of packing peaunts, the really small kind that go everywhere..

roflmao - nice

i had the ultimate in over-packaging hit me the other day - i ordered a bolt to test for a project - about 1.5" long - steel - fragile as all get out, right?

it came in a sealed envelope, surrounded by bubble wrap, surrounded with peanuts, in an 8x8x4 box

the shipping cost more than the bolt

seriously though guys - get these to me soon - i am SWAMPED from the first week of april through the first week of may, with no time for car stuff at all - i would like to get all of these fixed before that, and if you want it in time for hershey, you need to get it to me by about the 1st of april

ok - i decided to add another piece to hold the small edge down - this was not in the plan, as the hardware already keeps it from coming loose, but one of the shields i got back only had that part loose, and not the large section, which was what i created the fix piece for - i assume that if this guy thought it was a problem enough to send it back, then i should probably do something about it on the rest

the pieces should be done in a day - sorry guys
