Design 1 Racing announces its new AC Tensioner
#1

Design 1 Racing announces the release of its Air Conditioning Tensioner for normally aspirated cars.

Many cars have had the catastrophic and expensive failure of the Air Conditioning Compressor due to improper tensioning of the belt. The Compressor still works fine, but the mounting ear is broken off. There is no repair for that. The only way to fix it is to replace the Compressor, which also means a recharge of the system. The resulting repair can easily be over $1000!!!

This new kit resolves that.

This kit replaces the OEM Tensioner with a new easy to adjust Tensioner, complete with Chrome Steel spherical bearing ends that ensure proper alignment, unlike the factory Tensioner, which is prone to breaking. It also relocates the Tensioner to a better position, providing a more even pulling on the Compressor.

The Tensioner Kit also adds an Idler Pulley, which adds belt wrap angle around both the Air Conditioning Compressor and the Crank Pulley. This allows the belt to be run with lower tension, reducing the loads on the components, and improving traction.

The kit uses the OEM belt, comes complete with instructions, and installs in minutes with basic tools. Just some simple swapping of parts, and you’re good to go!

Placing my order today. This, like the firewall brace, is an absolute no brainer...

yeah - this one is a big headache if you second guess yourself - i know of a few people locally who have had this problem, and it has never been cheap

this should resolve that - i'm not sure what porsche was thinking, and they certainly could have done a better job

i tried to make the kit universal, fitting both normally aspirated and supercharged cars, but the net belt length is just different enough that the heim joints prevented me from doing that - so, the center length had to change between the two applications - no other change though, so easy enough to do
