Need Rotor help:
#1

You guys who have Zimmerman drilled rotors, can you go look at the fronts and tell me if they are drilled in an opposite pattern (counter clockwise pinwheel for passenger side; clockwise pinwheel for driver side) THANKS!

xrad,

yes. driver side clockwise, pass. counter.

Both slots and drill patterns flow the same way.

Thanks Silvy: That is how my other drilled rotors were. These Zimmerman's have radial vents so it should be as easy to drill one direction as another. Reason I asked is that I received two right sided rotors and now have to send one back.

"Two right sided rotors" - how can this matter? If they're both the same, then they'll be opposite when mounted on the car - and that's what mine are, and I think that's what Silvy is describing.

My DD has drilled rotors and they are "handed" each one opposite to the other, so that when on the car they "run" the same way.

Seems to make sense that the drilled rotors should turn the same direction.

when mounted. Which direction is best? and which company makes the

them? thanks

PS. Flash, hows the two piece hats coming along????? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Pinball, that's what I'd like to have - but it's not what I have. Some years ago, when I was looking for wheels for a Saab, it was quite a search before I found a pair that was "handed" - I dislike wheels that I call "coming and going". However, I don't feel as strongly re rotors.

It's more aesthetically pleasing, but does it make any difference to the braking?

when they come they are marked LEFT and RIGHT.

front and rear are obvious.

well, I guess if if you include the centripetal/centrifugal forces involved with hot gasses and dust and heat diffusion, raking the radial spread of holes so they pinwheel (back and out from the center)opposite from the direction rotation would make sense(like a mini galaxy). However, the contribution of this advantage is probably minimal so really, it's just looks that matter.

here is the scoop: mass drilled zimmerman rotors are all drilled samE direction. You can buy them and if drilled through your vendor, they can be done oppositely. Too bad for me. Spoke to some porsche racing guys and they said what we already knew "rotor drilling direction does not make much difference , except in looks, on straight vane rotors)

next time, I will get the right ones!
