my new 95 968 Cab
#1

Hi everyone

My 95 968 Cab just arrived yesterday, I am so excited! The car drives like a dream!

I want to thank all of you for all the posts on this site, it was a huge help in deciding to get one of these amazing cars.

I had grown up fixing up cars with my dad, a 69 TR6, 71 MGB, and a 79 alfa romeo cs2. It has been almost 20 years since I have had a sports car. I have some friends that have taken me to a few PCA DE events and have driven thier 944 Turbo, what a blast! That is when I decided to get a porsche, I was looking for a car that I could track as well as drive around town when the weather is nice. I live in Maine and that means it will only see about 6 months of service a year. After a lot of research I decided a 968 was the ideal car for me. I hope that I can do some of the work on the car myself, but realize that I will need a good mechanic.

If any one could suggest a good mechanic in Maine that is north of Portland in the Midcoast region I would appreciate it. I have seen the post on the guy in biddeford and have heard he is very good, it is just a long way for me.

if anyone has any ohter suggestions please let me know

thanks again

Steve

Welcome to the world of 968. I know you will enjoy it.

Sorry I can't help you on a mechanic in your neck of the woods, but you should get it looked at if you don't know the service history. This is a great site that can help you a lot.

Too funny rhude Love the colors. Check in with PCA re a mechanic they might be able to help. You need someone who knows the 944/968.

I can't tell from the small photos, but is it Midnight Blue?

Looks like Midnight Blue is the current trend!

Love that color on the 968 Coupe or Cab. If I had an extra $16k, I would buy this one.

Congrats and welcome to the club!

It is midnight blue, with grey interior.

Luckily I got it for less than 16K! So far everything seems to be good with the car. My DE instructor has lots of experience with 924/944/968 and he is going to go over it with me one day soon. I do need to find a good mechanic though, still searching.

DEs - cool - looks like somebody might need to get on the list for the "cab chassis brace"

If you want to get on the list, send Flash and e-mail, (not PM)...

I also want to add my welcome...it's so great to see so many new enthusiasts buying 968s and joining the site.

Keep posting and we're always happy to help, lots of very knowledgeable folks on 968Forums...

ok, I have driven the car a few times and it drives and handles great. I was a little worried about the temp guage because it was all over the place, up down, pinned all the way up, but the engine never seemed to be hot.

The clutch seems a little weak to me too.

I found a good porsche mechanic through the local Porsche club. in talking to him he seems like a great guy. He likes boats too, so he can't be too bad.

Yesterday I had him completley go over the car since I didn't have any recent service records. He says the car looks good but there are a few things that he needs to go over.

The temp guage wasn't working at all, he took apart the dash and went through all the insturments and now that works great.

There is a small oil leak around the cam seal.

DME code 34 Hall signal - 252 times - he said they reset this and we will watch it

he said the timing belt has been replaced and that it looks ok.

He lubricated the clutch and it seems better, but he felt that the clutch is nearing the end of its life.

I have to take it back to have him check out the cam seal leak, I was thinking of just having him replace the timing belt since he is there anyway.

I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions?

and flash thanks for letting me know about the Chassis brace.

thanks

Steve
