Menchanics Recommendations
#1

Just wondering how we might almost be able to "pre-set" topics so things stay in one place a little better. This came up as I just got new wheels and was looking for a wheel shop to spruce them up a bit / take out a few scratches (still trying to make sure the dynamic between the 235/40/18 front and 265/40/18 rear tires are going to work). Didn't really find much help here - and in the end found some recommendations on a BMW site (never go to these guys - but go to these other guys!).

So after I get my wheels back, and if they do a good or bad job, would like to let people know so if you're in the NW (Seattle) you have something to go on. I know Brian up here has recommendations too that could be helpful to someone as well.

So wondering rather than just random posts if there was someway to pre-set where to post this kind of stuff - like threads for each region of the country and mechanics, each region and body shops, wheel & tires, metal refinishers, interior and tops, and so on. Maybe members could take ownership of a region and then make sure good and bad recommendation were always edited into the beginning post as well?

Just a thought - based on some of the folks on here I know there's a bunch of great info I'm missing because I do the wrong seach or something. The downside of any forum is that by it's very nature it wants to coil around itself and become a bit of a mess! Thanks to Flash for all the effort in stepping up and keeping this such a great place!

Right you are. It is great that there is a great PM in CA, but it does not help me in WA. Regional tags, maybe color coded to regions, would help localize small services. Thing like engine rebuild or trans rebuild might cross regional lines, but having people that are good in your neck of the woods would be helpful. Many of us on the board have DD and can not send bits away to have them serviced by an especially good shop.

I am running 225/40ZR18 and 285/35R18 on my "summer" turbo twist wheels. I have no spacers and no issues. Just be sure that your caster blocks are in excellent shape, the larger wheels strain them more than the stock 16's. Don't know how bigger would be in the front, I'd check clearances. The rears are smaller than I am running so you will be fine. Of course the wheel offset is important and you did not mention it. I am running 50 on the front and 65 on the rears.
