Maine recommendations
#1

I have my car serviced by-

Ralph & Paul Small

Performance Plus

19 Heath St.

Old Orchard Beach

ME 04096

207-883-2656

A small, messy shop but they're dedicated, do great work and try like hell to save you money whenever possible. I've been with them for 20 years now.

No website, no email. They don't like computers, or very many cars built after about 1995.

Another great shop is

Autowerkes Maine (the website is useless)

Brunswick Road

Gardiner ME 04345

582-2002

A very neat place run by Voit Ritch: I have always been more than satisfied with their work. They're some distance from me, however.

A real nice side-benefit of visiting Autowerkes is that they're in the same space as

Ayer European Auto

where you can usually find a fascinating variety of used special-interest cars to check out- both the cars that are for sale there and the ones being repaired or restored in their very high-end body shop. This is the place to take your car for any body work.

Etnier,

Thanks for the Maine recommendations. Who knows, I may soon be back in Maine myself and need the references.

Ayer is definatly a high end body shop. When I called them for a quote on a full body paint job, I got the impression that they felt painting a 968 was well below them, as thought I were asking them to paint an old Ford Escort! (Their quote was ~6-8k)

No, I think it's more that they know these cars have relatively low values (and I think they tend to conflate them with 944's, which makes the matter worse), so they think it's unlikely someone will want to $hell out for a proper repaint.
