Recommendations for body shop in LA/West Hollywood
#1

Hi guys,

So today some idiot reversed into the right front of my 968 as we were both waiting to exit the car park. He was driving a 2004 BMW X5, so he basically made a big dent in my front right fender, pushed the headlight halfway under the fender, as well as other minor scratches. I guess the only saving grace was that because it was an SUV, it only 'skimmed' the surface from higher up, but still resulted in considerable damage!

Anyway...

So I'm looking for an excellentg bodyshop in LA to do the work (with his insurance money). The last guy I went to had to order the part from Germany and it wasn't until 9 weeks later that I got my car back! Luckily, the car is perfectly fine to drive (as long as I don't need to use the headlights!) but I still want this fixed in a timely manner, which makes me wonder whether I want to take it to a certified Porsche place, unlike the smaller shop I took it to last time.

Any recommendations would be very much appreciated.

cheers,

milton

my car took 3 months to get painted, but that's what it takes to get it truly "right"

insurance companies won't pay for "right" though - they will only pay for industry standard - they also won't pay the 10% premium to expedite parts from germany, so it can take 6 weeks to get them instead of 1

i used dent restoration, and they did a great job - not sure if they are still there or not though

Hi Bob,

I used Dent Restoration as well when some other imbecile crashed into me back in 2005. They did a good job, but I wouldn't say exemplary! My car took 10 weeks to complete, but 8 of those weeks were spent waiting for parts, which kind of irritated me because the communication from the shop wasn't great. This time round my car is in a very driveable condition, which means that I can drive it around while waiting for the parts, leaving the Audi free for my wife and little fella.

As for taking 3 months to do the job 'right' - that either takes into account the amount of time waiting for parts, or a much more serious problem than the one that I have. The kind of damage that I have sustained really couldn't take longer than 7-10 days. The insurance has also finally accepted to pay for the repair costs *in full*, and that's from a reputable porsche dealership in Beverly Hills. It's a good thing that I don't have to expedite the parts since I'm in and out of the country anyway.

cheers,

no worries - when i said doing it "right" i was talking about a full paint job, with all body panels removed - that was my paint job - it certainly is not the same for a "repair"
