Yeah Man! I just picked up my 968 at the Barn and finally got the LSD that I hoped would be in by Hershey. Nevertheless, I am so amazed at how much different the car feels.
Pete tried to undersell the difference to me and told me I would feel it mostly on deceleration and through tight turns, But I have to say that the whole ride just feels more planted on all roads and surfaces.
I took the car for a cruise to New Hope and got behind some slowpoke in a minivan and pulled out to pass....LOVED to hear BOTH rear wheels chirp out of third as I rocketed passed this housewife.
Oh, while it was in I got the new braces for the power steering and A/C...obviously doesn't affect the driving but for $150 its good insurance.
I love my car more every time I get it back from Pete and Max, RS Barn strikes again !
Regards,
Jay

MrMister...the OS unit is what they installed in my car. I have driven other LSD equiped cars, but it is hard to tell differences with someone else's car. I could feel it right away in my own.
With the supercharger you're getting you will be able to run circles around the housewives
And yes, I saw many parts of your car around the shop . The motor is off somewhere (Probably some secret RS Barn laboratory buried deep underground), and other parts sit sadly on the ground dripping various fluids, but I just can't wait to see the finished product. You will probably be smiling the whole drive home.

Jay

Very cool Jay. Where did you get the unit? Pete had it? ZF or Torsen? Does Pete have a preference?

The unit is listed on the RS Barn website at $1,990. Also needed to replace some transmission bolts and the diff fluid is about $50.
Labor is about 3 hours
Had to save my pennies for a while before I took the plunge, but it is well worth it.

So Jay, what advancements does the OS unit offer over the original ZF or Torsen units? The price isn't that bad. Remember, LSD was a $895 option in 1992 dollars ($913 in 1993-5).

I know the feeling.
My car came with LSD and I remember my surprise when, under hard acceleration, the tires burned again when I went into 2nd. Such a nice push too! But as time passes you take it for granted. I never think about it anymore.
Your post is a nice reminder of how important that little device is to our driving experience.
I love my 968 for what it is & don't hate it for what it isn't!

I've asked Pete to weigh in on all the technical stuff...I can only report how it feels...
Something about 50% lock up, vs. total lock-up, on decel, up hill,,yada yada...
