Interest in a group buy for clutch type LSD?
#1

I am a new dealer with KAAZ out of California, and I will be offering their clutch type LSD for the 968. I will include a full instruction manual to do it in the car, or with the transmission out of the car. A little bit of information to muster over. There is a warranty on the metal parts of the differential, and the rest is fully rebuildable. KAAZ was the pioneer in the large disc LSD which gives a more stable limited slip. Used for many years in the drift scene, these LSD will hold up to anything. They can be rebuilt through me if the need be which there shouldn't be. I would also dare anyone to compare prices of other clutch type LSD as well as the quality of build. Most other clutch types available are upgraded OEM units where as this is a completely different kind of LSD. Pricing depends on interest. You can read a little bit more about the differential here http://www.kaazusa.com/introductionToLSD/i...tion_To_LSD.htm . I will be retailing these for $1250, but would offer a discount for a group buy. If there is any interest I will do some price figuring and check with KAAZ about supply. I have placed an order for a couple, but if the demand is large enough then I may have to postpone until I can get the product. I can be reached via PM. I may also take trades for Torsen types.

Thanks,

Wes

Good idea Wes, sounds like a product that a lot of 968 (and 951) owners will want at a reasonable price. Still happy with my OEM TORSEN LSD. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Bob,

This won't fit into a 951 transmission as far as I am aware, so I am not marketing towards that. I think it helps though with people looking for a 968 who want an LSD, but the Torsen doesn't cut it.

I may have to take you up on that bet...my unit is a clutch type LSD from Porsche Motorsports!

On the other hand, your unit is less expensive than Porsche Motorsport's unit!

Best,

Jason,

You wrote something on the Rennlist about that. I called every source I have and the cheapest I can find an OEM Clutch type was $2400, the motorsport piece which no would said they could get their hands on would be upwards of $3,000. If you have a vendor that can get a hold of one for less I would love to talk to them. I would also like to state that a 951 diff that I recently rebuilt is way inferior to this unit. I haven't touched a 968 clutch type, but I would assume its similar to the 964 G50 unit, which is also inferior.

The Guard clutch type would be the closest comparison, but its over $2000. The Guard LSD is VERY nice, no doubt, but out of my budget. Like Pauls, this is completely rebuildable here in the United States.

I am not saying that what I am offering is the best. Porsche Motorsport knew what they were doing, Paul Guard knows what he is doing respectively. This is just a cheaper alternative, especially for those looking at a Guard or OEM Torsen type...which this would be SUPERIOR to those.

Wes,

I didn't mean to knock your efforts. I was kidding around a bit, with your offer of a bet!

I do wish you the best, though, and hope that it works out!

Jason,

I completely understand, and I didn't take it that you were by any means. I was just curious if you could find a motorsport piece for under 2g's, let alone a stock piece. You have way more experience in this field than I do, so I was curious if you have another motorsport vendor. Porsche Motorsport was no help since I am not a dealer for them, and the people I know that are can't do anything for me. I think when you bought yours they were cheaper because they were available, now they are much more expensive with their rarity.

Just as an FYI...

The last time I checked, a clutch type LSD for a 944S2/951 has a list price of about $2,200 from Porsche.

But in reality, you can get it a lot cheaper-than-list from places like Sunset Porsche, which if I recall from the last time I spoke with them, their cost+15% price came in at around $1,400 (obviously there is huge markup on LSD devices!).

Since the 968 has a G50 based box, and they are newer and more common than the 944/951 boxes, you'd imagine you could get a OEM G50 clutch-type LSD for the same money (or maybe less) than a 944/951 LSD.

As I said, the numbers I quoted above are based on recollection, so I certainly wouldn't bet the farm on them. But if one was curious, it might be worth a quick call to Sunset just to find out how much a clutch-type G50 LSD would cost...

I have not called Sunset, but I did call a few other well known vendors. They may have it for less which would be cool. I have just been shopping for LSD's and there is no clutch type for cheap, period. If it matters, the Torsen retails for $2400 right now from Porsche, so that should say a little bit.
