Alarm door latch buttons closing by themselves?
#1

I think a ghost has moved in my 95 coupe. I decided to wax my car. while waxing with the windows open in my garage I notice the door latch buttons where down and blinking. So naturally I pulled the button up and the alarm went off, No problem as I live alone, so the wife did not scream at me. So I went inside and got the key and turned the key to shut off the alarm. But a few minutes later the buttons went down again by themselves. Eventually my ghost moved out and the car is back to normal buttons stay up unless I either use the switch on the console behind the Gear shift arm or when I park it I lock the door with the key. Any ideas why the buttons move down by themselves?

That has happened to my car one day as well ( without the alarm part though ) . It acted up that way twice , and then never again . So I never bothered to find out why and what the solution was because , well.. as easily as it appeared it disappeared . Just another one of many weird inexplicable moments . Sorry I can't be of any help with an answer but just thought I'd let you know you're not imagining ghosts or gremlins , they do take up temporary residence in 968s !

Just a note..I never, never, never pull the buttons up, only use a key to unlock the door. Those buttons snap right off and you will be sorry if you have to pull the door apart to fix.

Jay's exactly right. This past Saturday at a PCA club breakfast I showed up in my cab with the top down. After the breakfast we were hanging around and one of the guys wanted to look in my car, which I had locked before going inside for the breakfast. Rather than wait for me to unlock it he reached in and pulled up on the button. The button came up but the door didn't unlock. Now I get to take the door apart. Unfortunate, but since I still didn't install the dynamat in that door I guess this is the forcing function to get my arse in gear. Just annoying how it happened.

Mine does the opposite. It intermittently unlocks itself. My regular Porsche mechanic is stumped. My heater also occasionally goes on by itsef. I beginning to think it may have something to do with the ground and the window express I installed years ago. That didn't always work correctly and recently just stopped working at all. I, too, am looking at cracking the door open yet again. PITA!

Replace the ignition switch. Many of my Gremlins went away when I did that, including my heater going on and off at random times.
