.5 should be very good for a single 8". assuming you get it decently sealed up, it will work very nicely. just make sure you lay in dynamat everywhere in there, and really make a thick heavy wall on all sides, so that the walls don't move.



also, realize that you will be plugging up the drain hole there, so make sure you don't have any way for water to get into that area.

wrt porting the 'enclosure', depends on the driver. here's a resource that I used when designing my sub enclosure...see the port calculator to determine port length as a function on port diameter, enclosure volume, and tuning frequency

was just looking at the Polk website for product specs....the db804 is good to 47hz and supports a .35 cf sealed enclosure. all of the other subs listed require minimum .60 cf enclosure volume.

Brian - the Polk db840 is the one I got. Yeah I guess I kinda cheaped out on it - it's going for 45 bucks now on Amazon - but I needed one that had a magnet that wasn't too big in diameter or too deep a mounting depth to fit inside the KLA sub box. Now that I'm going to try ditching the box, I might just try that JL that Flash recommends.

when your car is running again, if you want to see if you can salvage the KLA box. come over here. it will only take a few minutes to pull one of my JL drivers and see if it fits in there and then test it. if it does fit, it will definitely react better to the box than the polk.
