Just came in from the Dark Side...
#1

Hi

Just sold my 1993 964 C2 and bought a 1994 968 Coupe, Midnight Blue, Coilover front + Koni Sports all round, 161,000km. Picked the car up in Sydney, Australia and drove it home to Brisbane (1,000km) with my 19 year old son, Scott. Nice trip with no dramas, good for father/son bonding. Suspension is harder than the 964 (Bilstein + Cargraphic+H&R) but handling less edgy. Missing the 964 sound though... Just bought and fitted a set of Simmons 3-piece wheels (18x8 front, 18x10 rear, with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.) Spent today under the car checking everything out - no surprises to date. Looking forward to learning more about the 968.

Regards

Welcome to the club, Rob. The 968 is truly a wonderful car. If you want to improve the sound, along with the performance, do a search of this site for "air box mod". It is simple and will result in increased HP along with a throatier sound, especially if done in conjunction with a new chip. Enjoy the ride!

Welcome. I know exactly what you mean about missing the sound. My car is far superior to a 911 of that era but I really wish it made that that 6 cyl sound that I love so well ;-) The Supercharger and exhaust system made up for some of the lost noise, tee hee.

Welcome Rob, I also came from a 911 as the previous car, '82 SC, here is a bit of comparison I wrote when new to the 968 and this forum.

Yes, the 911 has some characteristics which I highly appreciated, but I grew to love the 968.

Welcome to the forums Rob. I can recommend the airbox mod. Not only does it liberate some horses, but it does improive the noise.

There seem to be plenty of airboxes around to modify if you want to keep yours un-hacked about.

congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forum.

Suspension -On stock springs and shocks, I doubt the 68 would feel harder then a 911. Perhaps you can dial back the Koni's and see how it feels.

Sound - If you swap out your cat-back you'll get a deeper rumble as well as shave a few lbs

Whats all this HTML garbage doing in my post?

You can't use any HTML code or "special stuff" in the Introductions subforum. And sometimes when you cut and paste, or even just use the "Advanced" editor feature, you get all that HTML thrown in your post.

You can select the text and use the little eraser icon on the editor toolbar to remove the formatting (and therefore also the HTML junk).

Rob,

Nice to have another Midnight Blue 968 in Brisbane especially with a 19 year old son attached. I know the feeling.

I will keep my eye out for you.

Enjoy both.

Bob - you had a very nice 964, why did it go? Are you going to track the 968?

Once you have made a few posts, you can send me a message and we can catch-up. I miss QLD, the motorsport events over here are a bit few and far between. Lots of motorkhana's, not much track time.

Hope that this finds you well and living life to the full.

Hi rob,

Not many 968's in brisbane. Baz has been a great help for me, so i hope between the other Qld owners, we can assist if required.

Sound bothers me also, but the car is great for driving even for us everyday joes.

Cheers,

Peter

Thanks for all the welcomes - for the Brissie guys - the Porsche Club Qld is having its annual concours at Ormiston House tomorrow Sunday 23 Sept. I'm taking my 968 out, just to show, not to compete. If you would like to come and see some great Porsches form 10am-2pm, and maybe catch up, that's be great!

Regards
