Trunk latch not working
#1

The trunk on my cab won't lock shut. It closes ok, but the mechanism that grabs the latch and holds the lid down doesn't seem to want to engage. I can move the little clasp and it seems to work ok, it just won't stay rotated closed so it holds the lid.

Any thoughts? I do have Greimann's recommended aftermarket remote door lock/hatch pop installed, and its been working fine for 6 months now. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks!

Nobody has any thoughts here? I just had the transmission rebuilt. Could they have forgotten to attach a cable back to it or something?

How come everyone else has problems that involve replacing a fuse and I'm blessed with this weird stuff? hehe <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Mark, it seems to be a mechanical problem, not electric. There is typically a hold pin of sort that is pulled with the motor to release (open the boot). It sounds as though this is stuck in the pull position which does not allow the unit to lock; you might have to pull the assembly out to troubleshoot the precise problem. Play with it to see if it's a cable that's stuck and applying tension, or if it's the mechanism itself. Let us know what you see. It might be as simple as lubrication. Good luck.

Just an update: Been out of town a few weeks, finally got back to addressing this problem. I can now get the trunk to close. But neither my remote or the key will open it. Only the release button in the car works. My guess is, that something is blown with my remote's relay. (I have an aftermarket remote with trunk pop installed. It has a small relay of some sort in the back which seems to be the middle point between the key pop and the actual latch. So we'll see.

Anyway, at least the trunk works now....

Well it very well could be my relay that is the culprit. Fortunately it is a universal 5 pin Bosch style relay. You may even have a spare in the extra parts that came with your keyless entry system. If not, they are easily found at any parts store, or even Radio Snack. Just make sure it is a 5 pin relay, not a 4 pin that will fit in the socket as well. If you can't find one, let me know. I have a few extra...

Thanks Dave! I'll swing by Radio Shack when I'm back in town next week and see what I can find. Will post results as always...

Thanks!
