Interior trunk light question
#1

My interior trunk light works... when I manually switch it on and off. Is it supposed to turn on automatically when the hatch is opened? You would think it would but I don't see any switches for it. Anyone?

It's the same 3 position switch as above the windshield. Far one way is switched, middle is off, far opposite was is ON. My guess is that your switched position isn't making proper contact. These tend to wear out over time and are cheap enough to replace.

Where's the microswitch for the "switched" position?

Check the strut on the passenger side (assuming you are LHD), there is a switch/contact built into it.

I had a similar issue, but mine wasn't working at all. As noted, the switch is located on the hatch strut, passenger side. You can see in the pic below that the wire isn't connected. Once I connected it, everything worked fine.

Ahhh... I see said the blind man. My light worked but the lense was cracked and had a chunk missing so I replaced the unit. So assuming I have a brand new light in there that works and the contact on the stut hatch is connected where would I look next to solve the issue?

I'd check the contact inside the strut sleeve as well, as it's a fairly small pin that's easy to break off. You could always jumper a short wire from the clip to the strut tube to see if there's a problem in there. I need to check to see if mine works on the cab.

So... the switch is there. It's just bent up enough that it doesn't make contact with the metal strut anymore when the hatch it open. I tried several ways to fix this and I can't get it to make contact. If I buy a new strut does it come with this piece?

Yes that comes as part of the strut. Just got one for my 944 and it is all there.

That's why there are 2 different part numbers when ordering rear struts; one has the contact assy.
