You need a "depends" option. Some cars look nice with these treatments others do not; interior color also make a difference.

I'm with Brian. Post pics next to the ?. After all, if this is going to be a scientific poll one must have accuracy to validate the results. And no that should not be the response to me that you are thinking!

bob do we have a age breakdown with our members? I am wondering if this over 40 section is just not a thinly veiled attempt to call many of us old.

+1 on the above. I like both but it all depends on interior colors and the car itself. Carbon Fiber looks better with blacks and grays; woodgrain looks better with beige and browns.

SInce it's the 968 Forum, one can assume what you intended by the poll and I will be more specific on my "depends" answer. I don't really like either in the 968. Was woodgrain even an option? I only know about the shift knob. Now, if there's other wood or carbon fiber somewhere else on the car to tie things together, it can work, but I think it always looks like a DIY type application.

Yes, I'm old. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

The first 968 I looked at two years before I purchased my first was oh how shall I say this? Well no offense to any of you of Italian origin, but it was totally guinied up. Name billie was etched on top of both doors. Inside the dash was wood and like a velor or fuzz with once again the name etched above the glove compartment box. The car had things wrong with it, no service records, caught the owner in lies within two minutes and he asked me to have the right of first refusal to buy it back in a few months. I took many showers after I got home and didn't feel clean for weeks! The original look is classic, why try to make it better. Of course, too each his own!

The age is included to validate the answers. Never trust anyone under 40. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

lol - you guys are over-thinking this.

i am just trying to see if there is a trend

originality or car color is not a factor. this is not even a 968 specific question. for example, i don't like the carbon fiber look ANYWHERE on any car. i like wood trimmed interiors in general. this is a much more general question.

JUST VOTE!

and yes, woodgrain was an option.

I have the "plastic" wood grain and I'm way over 40. Adventura Green with champagne and black interior.

No to carbon, yes to wood. But that's just in a 968.

"Wood grain" from plastic/contact paper or wood grain from a real actual tree? I like one, not the other.

It's funny, because I was about to put no for wood grain, but then realized my whole dash is wood in the TR6 and I love it...I just think it looks tacky in a lot of newer cars.

I know you hate the carbon look Flash...I'm always tempted by it, but I certainly respect it more when it's being used for it's properties, like in my windsurfing masts and booms...

I do like natural materials, so my main choice for the ideal car interior includes a slathering of good quality Leather.

Stone is nice around my fireplace but of course would be too heavy for a car...

Bare metal's too cold, so let's just add some suede. :0)

Maybe wood if it framed a well-made Koji screen, say, for the glovebox, or center console, something like that.

it just cracks me up that the whole "carbon look" fad was a complete accident. if the kid with the RX3 who first did it didn't have to go to a funeral, he would have primered the part, and his buddies would never have seen it, it never would have caught on, and i wouldn't feel like retching every time i see it.

i like the material for its intended use. i just think it looks unfinished when used for looks. i keep wanting to paint it.

Some carbon fiber on the shifter knob I can accept. My son bought a carbon fiber hood for his Civic SRi and while he thought he was "cool", I thought it looked "unfinished".

Some very high end brushed nickel can look good on some accent points.

Wood - only if it is the real deal.

p.s. - the OEM option was real wood, not plastic. that is pretty common in upper end cars. it's a thin veneer. less expensive cars go with plastic.

I agree with Flash on the look of carbon fiber, although my feeling about it isn't quite a strong. I do think it looks unfinished. Wood, on the other hand, can look quite nice if done well. I also like brushed aluminum (my wife's 08 328i has it), although it dents easily.

yeah - we had the aluminum on the M3. the driver door handle had little dings in it from a guy with a ring.

we changed it all out for wood. finally sold the aluminum stuff, but took 4 years to do it.
