Still would like to find a shark fin type and see if it would fit, I do have XM radio, plus, my reception is non existant w/stock antenna.
Just remembered... I have a windshield antenna also... may work, could lose 12 ounces!!!

I'm not sure if it would fit (looks very close) but the shark fin on my 06 Jetta seems to work well, I can pick up stations from Chitown to Madcity at my house (200mile radius?). NONE of my other cars can come close to that.
One question Flash might be able to answer is how much the tuner has to do with that (AM/FM/SAT vs AM/FM/no sat).

Allow me to beat Flash for once...maybe he's sleeping for a change!

The tuner does indeed have quite a bit to do with reception, good or bad. There is a spec called FM sensitivity that is measured in decibels and has to do with how well a tuner will differentiate between strong and weak signals. It mainly comes into play when trying to pull in stations that are farther away. The lower the number the better the spec.

I had a buddy in Germany who installed a BMW shark fin antenna on his 944. Not sure how the adaptation of the cables worked out but his reception was incredible. If memory serves right, he said it was from a 3-series, maybe an M3. Can't remember now.

Anyway, it looked awesome and really cleaned up the lines of the car, IMHO. I'm seriously considering the same mod. I'll try to get in touch with him and get a picture to post.

That's the antenna on my current 3-Series as well. I must say the reception I get on the 330i is outstanding. I'm guessing getting the antenna out of a wrecked 3 wouldn't be too difficult. I'd love to see pics of the install.

My reception in my car bites, and could use some updating. I checked all the wiring and it's done correctly.

So the 3 series shark fin will work and is an improvement. Now were getting somewhere.

I'm going to run a couple of quick searches.
