As you said before beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the Merc 190 2.3 16 is a rare Cosworth powered car, and not that ugly, certainly better looking than me

The Lancia Delta is a fun car to drive. I drove it a couple occasions in the past. I like it. It is an old school rally tribute.

Quote:no 911s .... funny! I didn't even consider until Rap mentioned them, anyone else likewise? Surely the handling is funny, all the weight is at the back.....
takes a skilled person to drive one fast, with 993 being north of 50k over here, and 993 turbos north of 100k
the 964 is not as pretty, and 996/997 are just plain ugly

Quote:So that begs a different question, but on the same lines ...... What would you need to spend in order to find a looks/performance substitute for our 968s?
I would say around twice what the 968 goes for. My choice for a replacement with the same beauty and performance would be the Aston Martin Vantage V8. They run 40-70k in the US. I did find a nice one for less, but it has a salvage title and that makes insurance a bit of a challenge.

I have a friend who bought a worn out early 911S that had 300,000 miles on it. He stripped it down to bare steel, seam welded it, installed a roll cage. He sold the original engine and replaced it with a 2.2L that had been stretched to 2.4L. The car is light, agile, very fast, handles like you would expect from a 911. I'd take it in heart beat, but the price of a one done this way is day well beyond my price point.
I have always loved the 968 body lines. It reminds me of the Ferrari 250/275 GTB and the Cobra Daytona, both in my mind. timeless designs.

I look at mine and wonder, really ?
Sorry Rap no insult intended, the do nothing for me at all, just look like a beetle had an affair with a Karman Ghia, and the 911 is its offspring
I have no doubt they are good cars and I have driven a few, but I would rather have the butt ugly Panamera
My eldest has just bought the new BMW 2 series Grand Whatever, another ugly car

Rap I also don't see the common dislike of the look of a 911. I Had a 2009 997.2 c4s Cab at the same time that I had 2 968s. Before that I had a 2008 Cayman S, which I also really liked. I enjoyed every one.
Sadly, I often wonder if, at least for some people, that the dislike is really "I have a 968, and I've had it a long time, and I have grown used to it, but I can't afford a 911, and I like my 968, and I resent you being able to have one (especially if you an old fart at the country club), and so I don't like 911s".
Maybe? (And without accusing ANYONE)
