It has been fascinating to see how dedicated some people are to this car. That's great, and likely the only way it will ever stand a chance of becoming collectable.

To that point, many of us are in love with the car, and we all know why, but the route we have taken to get to that point has varied widely.

As a natural part of self-analysis, I tend to look back and see how I got from Point A to Point B. I also wonder if I would have done things differently from time to time.

So, if you were to do it over, and you were to buy a 968, what would you do differently than the way you did it the first time (or the last time if you have done it more than once)?

I purchased exactly the right car.

In 2000 I purchased my 968 with 16,000 miles in showroom condition.

I love the color inside and out, and though I wish I had some additional features (12 way power and heated seats, all leather interior, 17" wheels) I would probably have had to by a new one from the factory to get exactly what i wanted.

I got pretty close and RS Barn and D1R have pretty much taken care of the rest.

When I got it, it was perfect.
Black over grey, LSD, sport seats, 17" wheels, 21K miles.

After 15 yrs and 130K more miles, I just want to reset the clock.
Maybe I'd go Guards Red over black or Midnight Blue over cashmere. I'd shy away from the classig grey's tendency to turn brown and crack.

My choice is not in the poll- have both a coupe and cab.

If possible, and I could order it from the factory, I would have a SY cab with late softback sport seats, 12-way and heated of course, LSD, M030, and the stupid windscreen!!!!! [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif[/img]

To compliment that, I would like to have an M030 coupe, same seats, LSD, exterior in Vesuvius (993 color) with an interior in deviating black and marble gray.

Both would need original 18" 993RS supercup wheels, and the 968TurboRS carbon fiber strut brace, of course!!!

I will be selling my Coupe shortly, and i will get the exact car i want. I going to purchase the right cab somewhere down the line. The only other Coupe i would buy is a Mint Green Coupe if one turns up btwn now and the time i buy my Cab.

The one I happen to have has all the 4 basic configurations the way I like it (my purpose is daily driver).
- coupe. Have had a lot of years with convertibles, kinda done with them for now. To my eye the 968 looks better as a coupe.
- tiptronic. can't count the 100s maybe 1,000s of hours I sat in SoCal traffic fiddling with manual shifting.
- silver. one of the better colors, maybe not the best. Most valued feature is that it doesn't show the dust / light dirt. (would never get white, black or red -- again... just personal taste).
- classic grey interior. (Black is not acceptable, too light shows the dirt, the classic grey is neutral, don't like gaudy interior colors).

I voted to get a different colour. I love my car, but I wish it had a black interior. I now have a midnight blue interior and I just know once the dashboard cracks I won't be able to replace it. And me being anal, that means selling the car. If I had to do it over I would buy an amethyst over black Club Sport. Turbo S would be even better.

My '94 was purchased by my son (as a father/son togetherness thing) in July '00 (anniversary coming up next Tuesday!) with about 54,000 miles. Turned out to be more of a son drives/father pays sort of thing, but it has always been fun having around. Now at over 100k miles, it needs some work. The overhauled engine, new clutch, flywheel, PP, etc should take care of a lot of things. I like the Amazon Green and obviously am happy that it has M030. It's too humid, too often in Atlanta for me to want a Cab. So I voted for the same car and plan to keep it for awhile. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]

The thing I find most interesting in the results so far is how the Cab people want to stay Cab people, and the Coupe people want to stay Coupe people. I voted that I'd get the same car I have now.

for the most part, yes - some hardtop guys switch over, once they figure out that the car can be as stiff as the hardtop - it is interesting though how generally it is a hard line that just doesn't get crossed

that being said, i have learned to enjoy the "hardtop" on the benz

I am happy with the mods made to the car and the process of evolution over several years has been rewarding.

If I was to do it again, I would go for the KW suspension rather than the Bilstein coil-overs - one the assumption that better bump control would make the ride better whilst maintaining the spring rates I currently have.

Way too many mods to list in terms of suspension and brakes. Now trying to come to grips with the engine and power.

Over here the M030 Club Sports are still way too expensive - around $60,000, so a standard car and upgrading the brakes is much more sensible.

Black on Black is a good combination, but still like white as well.

I didn't have much of a choice when it came to colour, but I quite like Amazon Green.
But if I had to do it all again, I would have just done it sooner. As it was, I went 10 years between Porsches. Far too long.

And I would have acted faster on the car I eventually bought. It was initially offered with the original 16" wheels (which I preferred). After being unsold for so long, the previous owner replaced the wheels with a set of 17"ers.
It was a stroke of luck that another 968 owner in the local club had a spare set of original 16"ers, which I gladly swapped.

Would have loved to have got a M030 CS in Riviera Blue, but M030 CSs are way too expensive here maybe because they are still sought after by track junkies. So a later car so that I don't have to think about con rods would be worth waiting for. Few less K's than I have would also be nice but that doesn't guarantee less troubles if the maintenance has not been up to scratch.

When I started looking for a 968 my primary requirements were the M030 package, lsd and sport seats. The color was secondary. After 15 years the red with beige interior has grown on me. Still not my first choice but offset by by the enjoyment over the years.

I was very happy with the path I went down. Bought mine form Stoddard Porsche and was treated as if I was buying a new car.
I think it helped my salesman had a 951 and was an entusiest.

Silver is my second favorite to black. So I was content.
Next one will come modded (hopefully) saving me the trouble.
